For a break in Gland, you can plan your time around water, activity or cultural heritage. The municipal beach, paths along the Lavasson and several places connected to local history offer different ways to shape your stay.

The beach and paths along the Lavasson

The municipal beach lies below Chemin de la Falaise, away from traffic. You can swim in the marked bathing area and reach a raft; there is also a grassy area for sunbathing. In 2018, the Lavasson was revitalised to restore its biological functions, including fish migration. The stream offers a chance to learn about both its ecological development and the area’s military and historical heritage: a safe, publicly accessible footpath with information panels brings this heritage to light.

Get moving on foot, by bike or on a run

The Centre sportif En Bord has a wide range of facilities for taking part in numerous sports. Another way to get active is the municipal «Visite aux sportifs» trail: this roughly one-hour loop winds through woodland and fields around the Centre sportif En Bord and can be completed on foot or by bike. The Gland Spring Run, by contrast, is a running event launched in 2018. Its 5 km loop starts at the Montoly site. When planning, allow about an hour for the trail and note that the Gland Spring Run covers 5 km.

Industrial and military history

The Usine électrique des Avouillons was commissioned in 1900 and has been generating electricity for more than a century. Groups can visit the facility by arrangement. Villa Rose also combines a specific historical theme with the opportunity to visit: disguised as a residential house, it is a fort that has been reconstructed as a museum to show how it looked in 1940. The preserved weapons from that year include a cannon and machine guns; accommodation for soldiers has been recreated in the attic. Open days are held regularly, and visits can also be arranged on request.

A different story of a building is the focus of the permanent exhibition at Grand'Rue 38. It traces the building’s development from its construction as a school in 1881 to its use as an administrative building. Together with Villa Rose and the Usine électrique, these places offer different ways to explore Gland’s architectural, military and industrial heritage.

The market and annual festival

The Marché de Gland takes place every Wednesday at Place de la Gare and brings together around 30 exhibitors from the region. The market features around 30 regional exhibitors. As a regular weekly event, it is easy to factor into your stay.

Another occasion is the Fête multiculturelle in Gland. Organised by SPOP every year, it is free and open to everyone. The two events therefore differ in frequency: the market takes place every Wednesday, while the festival is held annually. Check the dates when planning so your visit fits the activities you have in mind.

Getting around

All points along the historic trail can be reached by public transport and other modes of transport. Options include Gland CFF railway station, the TPN 805 and TPN 811 bus routes, the TUG 836 bus route and Publibike stations in Prangins, at Gland station and in Gland-La Lignière. If you plan to follow the trail, check the timetables for your visit.
