Levidi can be explored through clearly distinct points of reference: the central square with its shops and cafés, the Church of Taxiarchon with its two clocks, and the history and destinations in the surrounding area. There are also routes and roads leading in different directions. For planning, it helps to consider local life, cultural history and directions to destinations separately: each of these aspects tells you something different about the place and gives you a specific starting point for choosing your travel interests. The agricultural school is just outside Levidi.

The Square, Views and Church

The central square is considered lively throughout the year. Shops and cafés are part of its character; if you plan to visit a particular establishment, check its current opening hours. From the square, the view stretches towards four named destinations: Mount Mainalo, Analipsi, Mount Artemisio and Mount Chelmos. Analipsi is a hill; the other three destinations are described as mountains. This makes the square a place that connects local life with views towards a variety of landscape features.

The Church of Taxiarchon is another specific feature of the village: it has two clocks, one old and one new. Together with the view from the square, it offers a different focal point. While the view takes in several named places, the church centres attention on two clocks on a single building.

History and Churches

In 1976, residents of Levidi turned Alexandros Papanastasiou’s house into a museum in his honour. If you would like to visit the museum, check the current visiting arrangements in advance. The Byzantine Church of Panagia Levidi is 2 kilometres from Levidi. Its location is therefore a separate point of reference from the Church of Taxiarchon in the village. If you would like to visit Panagia Levidi, check access arrangements beforehand.

Directions from Levidi

Routes from Levidi lead towards the settlement of Dara. Roads lead towards Vytina, the archaeological site of Orchomenos and the Ostrakina ski centre. These destinations represent different things: Dara is a settlement, Orchomenos an archaeological site and Ostrakina a ski centre; Vytina is another destination along the roads mentioned. For your planning, you can first consider whether the route towards Dara or the roads towards Vytina, Orchomenos and Ostrakina matter more to you.
