Kútniky has retained its agricultural character; the history of the village is reflected, among other things, in bell towers, a former model farm and technical heritage. The V/2 cycling route branch, intended for mountain bikes, is another feature. If you are looking for holiday accommodation, you can first consider whether local history or cycling will play a bigger part in your stay. The buildings and cycling routes offer different, specifically described points of interest.
Location and landscape
Kútniky lies in the Danubian Lowland, in the central part of Žitný ostrov. The municipality is situated at an elevation of about 112 to 115 metres above sea level and is flat and treeless. The underlying geology includes gravel and sand from the Kolárovo Formation, as well as thick layers of Danube river deposits. Together with the agricultural character that has been preserved to this day, these features define the setting of the village.
Kútniky is also located on the main road between Bratislava and Komárno. This road connection can help you orient yourself when planning your trip. The landscape details and the village’s history have different emphases from the cycling routes: they give you an impression of the municipality and its agricultural character, not of a specific route.
Local history and architectural heritage
Fuchsov majer in the settlement of Enyed is a notable part of the area’s agricultural history. The model farm permanently employed 50 families. Two stable buildings remain from the original complex; next to one of them is a fire station dating from the early 20th century. A hand-operated fire pump from 1912 is kept there. The former use of the farm and this specific piece of technical heritage are thus closely connected thematically.
The former distillery in Enyed also belongs to this historical setting. Only its three-storey tower remains; pilasters of unrendered brick articulate its corners. In Töböréte, the bell tower was built in 1921 and moved to its present location in 1972. The two dates mark different stages in its history: its construction and its subsequent relocation.
In Hegybeneéte, a wayside shrine stands beside the Bratislava road. It was erected in 1924 by believers from the municipality. Another piece of religious architectural heritage is the bell tower in Blažov, built in 1913 and restored in 1981. Blažov is also home to a wayside statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. House No. 80 in Kútniky is associated with the local history as the birthplace of the sculptor and woodcarver György Lipcsey. Taken together, these landmarks span religious architecture, technical heritage and the biography of an artist.
Cycling routes and route choices
The V/2 cycling route branch starts in Kútniky and connects the main routes V and IX. It is five kilometres long and intended for mountain bikes. The section within the municipality of Kútniky has been built; outside the municipality, the branch is marked along the embankment by the S7 canal. Check local conditions before setting off.
Another route option starts in Dunajská Streda, 2.5 kilometres from Kútniky. From there, a 73.5-kilometre route begins; it is practically flat, easy to navigate and part of the International Danube Cycle Path. The two cycling options therefore differ in their starting points, length and route descriptions: V/2 is a five-kilometre branch for mountain bikes, while the route from Dunajská Streda is described as a long, practically flat and easy-to-navigate route.
Considering Kútniky as a place to stay
When choosing accommodation, you can treat your trip’s interests as separate planning considerations: the local agricultural and architectural history, the cycling route branch from Kútniky, or the longer route from Dunajská Streda. This lets you plan your trip around your preferred focus without treating the two cycling routes as the same. The details about length, starting point and route type can help you decide what to look for during your stay; when planning, also check the local conditions along the cycling route.
