The Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral area of Horné Mýto. In the built-up centre, near the Calvary complex, there is also a protected 200-year-old English oak. The river landscape and village history give the place two distinct thematic focuses.

Klátovské rameno and its wetland

Covering 306.44 hectares, the protected area is a representative example of a meandering lowland river with rare aquatic and wetland communities. Protected animal species found there include kingfishers, otters and beavers. The nature focus therefore encompasses both habitats and specific protected species.

A nature trail in Horné Mýto and Ohrady

A project description dated 29 April 2024 presents a nature trail established in the cadastral areas of Horné Mýto and Ohrady. It includes large information panels about the protected fauna and flora of the Klátovské rameno area of European importance. A walkway across the wetland is also part of the trail.

The panels and walkway offer places to sit, relax or refresh yourself along the route. In this way, the nature trail combines information about habitats and species with opportunities to pause. For travellers interested in nature, it adds specific information about the area’s protected flora and fauna to the experience of the landscape.

Getting your bearings in the municipality

Road III/1426 runs through the built-up area of Horné Mýto, from Jahodná in the north to Trhová Hradská in the south. A municipal road bridge crosses Klátovské rameno 1.4 kilometres west of the centre, in the direction of Ohrady. These two reference points describe different directions: a north–south route through the built-up area and a crossing west of the centre.

Church, memorial sites and farmhouses

The Baroque church in Horné Mýto was built in 1775 and remodelled in the 19th century in the Neoclassical style. The dates refer to two construction phases: its original construction and its later alteration. A plaque on the rear facade of the church commemorates the revolutionary years of 1848–1849. The church grounds are also home to a Lourdes grotto dating from 1996.

Farmhouses are also among the village’s architectural landmarks. Several have retained their original architecture; examples include houses No. 77, 108/13 and 122/18. This offers architecture enthusiasts a different perspective from the church: here, the focus is on preserved farmhouse architecture, while there it is on a dated building history and a Neoclassical remodelling.

If you would like to consider both nature and local history when choosing a destination, Klátovské rameno and the architectural heritage of Horné Mýto offer different points of interest. The natural landscape is shaped by the river, wetlands and protected species; in the built-up centre, you will find the English oak and other historic features.
