Păulești lies at the transition between the Ploiești High Plain, part of the Romanian Plain, and the Prahova Subcarpathians, a subdivision of the Curvature Carpathians. The shift between plain and hill country is an important guide to finding your bearings. There are also specific water and leisure attractions. When planning a stay, you can therefore take both the landscape and your interests in fishing, nature or local history into account when choosing your surroundings.
Plain, hills and slopes
Flat terrain predominates in the west and south of Păulești, while the rest of the area is hilly and shaped by the Subcarpathian landscape. This distinction is more specific for locating places than a broad assumption that Păulești is all plain or all hill country: the municipality includes both. If you are considering the surroundings when choosing accommodation, you can use these parts of the area as a first guide.
The eastern and northern slopes are covered with oak forests. The other slopes feature orchards, vineyards, pastures, hay meadows and built-up areas. The contrast is therefore not only between plain and hill country, but also between forested slopes and areas used in a variety of ways. For travellers choosing where to stay based on the surrounding landscape, this distribution makes a concrete difference: forest characterises the slopes in the east and north; elsewhere, cultivated land, pasture and meadowland, as well as development, are mentioned.
Water and leisure
Lake Păulești
Lake Păulești is a fishpond in the Dâmbu stream basin. The lake is therefore not only a named body of water, but is also classified as a fishpond.
Fishing and outdoor activities
In Păulești, a 21 ha body of water is used for recreational and sport fishing. An amusement park in Păulești Forest near the lakes offers pony rides, ATV rides and picnics in nature. These are different leisure options: fishing at a body of water and activities in a forest park. Check whether the park is open at your intended time of visit.
Local history and orientation
Local history also has specific points of reference. Casa Toma T. Socolescu is listed in Păulești as a rural monument; the Monumentul Eroilor stands in Parcul cu Castani. A report from September 2025 described the cross on Dealul Degerați as being illuminated at night. Previous dates for Sărbătoarea cireșelor were set for 20 and 21 May 2023, and 31 May and 1 June 2025. Both dates fell in late spring, with the later one extending into June.
As a geographic reference at the municipal level, Păulești municipality lies on DN 1, about 2 km north of Ploiești. Its territory is bordered to the east by the Teleajen River. The road, the location north of Ploiești and the eastern river boundary add specific geographic reference points to the picture of the municipality.
