Gurasada combines historical heritage with scenic and activity destinations across the wider commune. When planning, it is worth checking the exact location of each place: some attractions are in the village of Gurasada, while others are in villages belonging to the commune. This makes it easier to decide which interests you would like to focus on during your trip.

History in the village of Gurasada and beyond

The Church of St Michael the Archangel in Gurasada is a historical monument dating from the 13th century. Its naive interior paintings are associated with work begun by Ioan of Deva and Nicolae of Pitești in 1765. The Klobosisky manor is also in the village, along with a park of approximately 2.50 hectares. The first documentary mention of Gurasada dates from 1292 and uses the name ZAD. A Palaeolithic settlement is also among Gurasada’s archaeological heritage.

Another trace of history lies near Câmpuri-Surduc, within the administrative area of Gurasada. The La Tène fortification on the “Cetăţuia” promontory is located north of the village. It was a Geto-Dacian structure dating from between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD. Its wall was made of unworked stones bound with earth, and the upper section was made of wood. This offers a different perspective on the area’s history from the more recent heritage in the village of Gurasada.

Karst and water in the commune

In the village of Boiu de Sus, a karst landscape stretches from Cărmăzănești to Glodghilești. A cave system there comprises 27 natural cavities, including 24 caves and three shafts. Boiu de Sus is also home to a nature reserve for horned vipers, considered unique in Europe. These landscape attractions are in the wider administrative area and should not be confused with the village of Gurasada.

Water also provides a geographical point of reference: the Gurasada stream is a tributary of the Mureș. It flows into the Mureș upstream of Gurasada, between Gurasada and Gothatea. National Road DN 7 crosses the commune’s administrative area from east to west.

Climbing and local festivals

Gurasada-Park adventure and climbing park is located in the village of Gothatea, in the Mureș Valley and on the E 68, within Gurasada commune. It offers two treetop climbing courses of varying difficulty for children and adults. If you would like to include treetop climbing in your trip, you can choose between these two courses; their different difficulty levels provide a useful guide.

Recurring events throughout the year include the traditional Ruga, held every year on the last Sunday in July. The annual Commune Day is also held on the last Sunday in July, in the nature park in the village of Gurasada. It is a cultural and sporting event. In winter, the Winter Customs Festival features Christmas carols and performances by children from Gurasada and the other villages.

Choose the right location

When searching for holiday accommodation for a trip to Gurasada, it helps to distinguish between the village and the wider commune. The church and Klobosisky manor with its park are in the village of Gurasada; the climbing park is in Gothatea, the fortification is near Câmpuri-Surduc, and the karst landscape is in Boiu de Sus. Match the specific location of your accommodation with the places you would like to focus on during your trip.
