Ineu brings together historical sites with nature and culture. The dendrological park and Cetatea Ineului offer different points of interest, alongside a wooden church and the Muzeul Țării Zarandului. When choosing what to visit, you can weigh up the landscape, architectural history and cultural themes.

Parks with different stories

According to an institutional statement dated May 23, 2025, Ineu’s dendrological park covers twelve hectares; its boundaries and conditions may change. A yew tree stands there, estimated to be over 600 years old. The group of statues in the park includes works by sculptors from the Ineu Creative Camp 1988. The park thus combines a connection to nature with a specific chapter in local art history.

Another park reference concerns Ineu’s city park, formerly Parcul 1 Mai: it was established between 1805 and 1818. This date relates to the history of that park, while the yew and statue group belong to the dendrological park. Ineu therefore has parks with different points of interest: a historic park and one associated with trees and art.

The fortress and historical dates

Cetatea Ineului was first mentioned in 1295. Its inner section is a square, two-storey castle. On three sides, the walls were bordered by moats, and on the fourth by the Crișul Alb River. The description links the castle’s shape with its outer boundaries of moats and river.

Ineu’s oldest documented place name belongs to a different historical context: the town has been documented under the name villa Ieneu since 1214. The year 1214 refers to the first record of the town, while 1295 marks the fortress’s first mention. The dates therefore refer to different historical facts.

Wooden church and museum

The wooden church “Izvorul Tămăduirii” was inaugurated on October 9, 2016. It is considered a monument whose art and architecture are unique in western Romania.

A 2011 report places the Muzeul Țării Zarandului in the former Ineu primary school building. The report describes three exhibition rooms covering local crafts and handicrafts, fine arts, and history. The historical material described includes photographs from the period of the two world wars, newspaper pages and manuscripts from different eras. The museum’s themes thus encompass both local craft traditions and fine arts and historical sources.

Another park near Mocrea

The Ansamblul Castelului Solymosy is located in Mocrea, 2 km from Ineu, below Dealul Mocrii. The complex includes a six-hectare dendrological park with rare tree species. In terms of area, Ineu’s dendrological park covers twelve hectares, while the park belonging to the Solymosy complex covers six hectares. This provides a specific distinction between the two parks, while the location in Mocrea below Dealul Mocrii describes the complex’s geographical setting.

Route and other points of interest

The dendrological park is part of the Ineu–Târnova–Căsoaia tourist route. Route information may change; check it before planning your trip. Tărâmul Animalelor is described as an interactive zoo in Ineu. If you plan to visit this attraction, check current visiting options in advance.
