The Lunca Mureșului Natural Park stretches along the Mureș from Arad to the Hungarian border. This river landscape gives the region a strong connection to nature; at the same time, its attractions are not limited to the natural environment: museums, historic sites and outdoor art offer further perspectives.

A distinctive river landscape

Covering 17,455 hectares, the park also includes the diked, flood-prone area along the Mureș. This natural area connects the course of the river with a specific type of landscape. For planning your trip, it offers a different experience from a single cultural monument: here, an extensive river landscape takes center stage, while other attractions tell stories through collections, architectural history and art.

Tram history and guided cave visits

The Electric Tram Museum displays electric trams from the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum also offers rides on a historic train along the Arad–Ghioroc route. Check the arrangements in advance before planning this experience.

The “Grota Ursului” Cave has 200 fully electrified meters and can only be visited as part of guided tours with specialist staff. It is considered the only publicly accessible cave in Arad County. Before you travel, check whether visits are currently possible.

Museums offering insights into lives and collections

The Ioan Slavici exhibition at the Ioan Slavici and Emil Monția Memorial Museum comprises three rooms with family photographs, diplomas, awards, manuscripts, books and newspapers. The permanent Emil Monția exhibition recreates his study with original furniture, a piano, a violin, scores, folklore collections and family photographs. While the Slavici exhibition brings together a range of documents and images, the Monția exhibition focuses on a reconstructed workspace.

The necessary space for an exhibition at the Ioan Slavici and Emil Monția Memorial Museum was set up in the building of Bohuș Castle. The presentation may change; check the latest exhibition details before your visit.

Sculptures, fortress history and winegrowing

The monumental sculpture park in Căsoaia grew out of the National Sculpture Symposium, held each summer from 1979 to 1985. Across seven editions, 72 monumental sculptures were created by 57 artists. The combination of the recurring symposium and the works it produced makes the park a visible result of an artistic process.

The history of Șoimoș Fortress can also be traced through specific dates: it was first documented in 1278 and completely rebuilt by Iancu de Hunedoara around 1440–1446. The Arad Museum Complex opened in 1893 as an exhibition of relics from the 1848 Revolution. At the Cultural Palace, the Arad Museum Complex displayed collections on archaeology and medieval history, as well as a European art gallery.

The Wine Road stretches from Lipova to Ineu, passing through Păuliș, Ghioroc, Covăsânț, Șiria and Pâncota. The Vineyard and Wine Museum presents the history of viticulture and winemaking in the Miniș–Măderat wine-growing region. Alongside nature and architectural history, winegrowing and its historical development are also among the themes to explore.

Hiking trail and village museum

The marked Dezna–Dezna Fortress Ruins hiking trail is about 2.1 kilometers long. It starts in the center of Dezna and heads toward Moneasa. Yellow bars mark the route. In Moneasa, the Village Museum recreates a traditional household using old tools, furniture, vessels, newspapers and traditional costumes. Visits are possible by prior request at 0755-830.548. If you plan to visit the museum, make your request in advance.
