Babica lies in the Wisłok Valley on the slopes of hills and extends along both banks of the river. This gives visitors two distinct points of interest to consider when planning a trip: the river landscape and the village’s historic sites. The manor and park ensemble includes remains of 17th-century earthworks and water fortifications, as well as a landscape park dating from around the turn of the 18th to the 19th century. A small pond with a figure of Mary on an island adds to the grounds.

Churches, Chapels and Memorials

Construction of the Church of the Good Shepherd began in 1971. Two years later, Karol Wojtyła, then Archbishop of Kraków and later Pope John Paul II, celebrated the first Mass there. The many wayside chapels in Babica are considered expressions of religious devotion. One of the oldest is a column chapel built in 1862; a brick chapel stands beside house number 166 and dates from 1786. The two architectural forms and dates offer different points of reference for understanding the village’s religious heritage.

The memorials also represent distinct historical events. The Malta Cross Memorial commemorates the German killings of 1943. It was erected in 1961 at the site where the victims’ remains were exhumed. The Grunwald Monument dates from 1910 and takes the form of a mound topped with a cross; it stands beside Regional Road No. 345. Another structure is the stone railway viaduct over a watercourse, dated to 1888–1890.

Comparing Two Marked Trails

The red-marked Dębowa trail starts in Babica near the Galicja inn. The yellow-marked Bukowa trail also starts in Babica, beside Galicja. The Dębowa trail offers views of the Wisłok Valley, as well as Lubenia and Rzeszów. The Bukowa trail is characterised by woodland and an ascent: one section follows a gravel road through the forest, with the first rest stop at the summit. Later, the route passes through a forest, with the ruins of a medieval castle to the right. The trails therefore have different features: one is noted for its views, while the other includes woodland, a gravel road and castle ruins.

From its starting point in Babica, the Bukowa trail crosses a bridge over the Wisłok and continues towards the hamlet of Wyżne-Przylasek. A municipal route description published in 2013 mentions a ski lift there; check its current status before including it in your plans. The trail descriptions also date from that time. Before setting out, check trail conditions and the state of the rest stop so that your plans reflect local conditions.

Babica from the Water

A kayaking trip on the Wisłok offers a close-up view of nature and Babica. The village has a small private kayak landing from which trips towards Rzeszów can begin. As it is private, check in advance whether it will be available at your chosen time. The Dębowa trail focuses on views of the valley, Lubenia and Rzeszów; kayaking offers a different perspective, closer to nature and the village from the river.
