Nowa Wieś can be explored through its landscape, settlement layout and historical details. The Pstrągówka stream and numerous hills shape its geographical character; seven hamlets give the settlement structure its names. Other features include old stands of trees, the watermill, Kapliczka na Brzostowej, and a named hiking and cycling route. These different points of interest give you several concrete starting points for planning your trip.
Landscape and Settlement Layout
The settlement stretches along both sides of the Pstrągówka stream, on the slopes of numerous hills. Its hamlets are Podlas, Niebylec, Borek, Bania, Łazy, Budy and Koniówka. If you want to pinpoint a specific place, the hamlet name can provide additional orientation. For example, Kapliczka na Brzostowej is located in the hamlet of Budy. This makes it possible to distinguish two levels: the hamlets name parts of the settlement, while the stream and hills shape the broader landscape. This distinction is useful for orientation: a hamlet name locates a place more precisely, while the stream and hillside setting describe the geographical context of Nowa Wieś.
Old Stands of Trees
Two dates should be distinguished when considering the old stands of trees. The predominant group dates from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The oldest stands with the character of oak woodland are dated to the 18th and 19th centuries. “Predominant” and “oldest” answer different questions: the first places the predominant group in time, while the second identifies the oldest stands of a particular type. The earlier date therefore does not contradict the later dating of the predominant group. When comparing them, it is worth keeping in mind not only the centuries but also the qualifier “with the character of oak woodland.”
The Mill and Kapliczka
The old watermill on the Pstrągówka in Nowa Wieś was built in the 19th century at the initiative of Teofil Wasilewski; it is no longer in operation. Its location by the stream connects the mill’s history with the watercourse that also shapes the settlement’s landscape. Kapliczka na Brzostowej is located in the hamlet of Budy, at the highest point of the ridge; the reason it was built remains unknown. The two places offer different historical points of reference: the watermill’s construction date and initiator are known, while the reason for building the kapliczka remains unclear. They also differ in location: the mill is situated on the Pstrągówka, while the kapliczka is in Budy, on the ridge.
The Bukowa Hiking and Cycling Route
The 2013 municipal route description traces the Bukowa hiking and cycling route from Zaborów across the Wisłok to Nowa Wieś and onward toward Czudec. It also mentions a rest stop in Nowa Wieś. The description thus places Nowa Wieś between Zaborów and the continuation toward Czudec. The rest stop is listed as an additional point of reference in the settlement. Before setting out, it is advisable to check the current route and signage.
