Hyżne brings together religious art, historic sites and routes through the municipality. A 29.8 km cycling loop starts at the parish church; the 26 km green Władysław Sikorski Trail also passes through Hyżne. Above the village are viewpoints overlooking the valleys of the Tatyna and Mleczka rivers. This makes it possible to explore culture and landscape as distinct aspects of a trip: the church and manor house on one hand, and hiking, cycling and views on the other.
Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and Religious Art
The parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hyżne is a Marian shrine and was built between 1727 and 1739. The main altar houses a 16th-century image of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. It is described as miraculous and counted among the so-called Apocalyptic Madonnas. Another dated work of art in the church is the Renaissance baptismal font from 1592. Alongside the old trees around the church are a rosary path and seven chapels. The church site thus brings together religious imagery, furnishings and a religious landscape with several named features.
Manor House and Memorial Sites
The Neoclassical manor house in Hyżne was built around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It has a wooden loggia on the upper floor. Władysław Sikorski grew up in the manor house, which also houses a museum room dedicated to General Sikorski. A memorial to him is also located at the primary school in Hyżne. The cemetery contains the 19th-century family chapel of the Jędrzejowicz family. The parish church hill also has its own history: from the late 16th to the late 17th century, local residents used the steep hill on which the brick church now stands as a so-called peasant fortress.
Hiking, Cycling and Views
The green Władysław Sikorski Trail is 26 km long. Its route passes through Borówki, Nowa Wieś in the municipality of Hyżne, Hyżne and Błażowa, through the “Mójka” nature reserve, then through Kąkolówka and the “Wilcze” nature reserve, ending at Wilcze, at an elevation of 510 m. The 29.8 km cycling route forms a loop through the municipality of Hyżne. It starts at the church in Hyżne and passes through Dylągówka, Szklary, Dylągówka, Grzegorzówka, Borówki, Brzezówka and Hyżne. The information describes two different options: a trail that passes through several places and nature reserves before reaching Wilcze, and a cycling loop starting at the church.
Check the hiking trail’s current route locally, and check the route conditions before cycling. If you are planning an indoor visit or a visit to a particular viewpoint, it is advisable to check access in advance.
