The market square in Tyczyn preserves a historic urban layout with several townhouses dating from the 18th century and a former magistrate’s building. The urban layout was entered in the heritage register in 1970. This combination of town planning and individual buildings offers a tangible way to explore the cultural history of Rzeszowski County.
Palaces, Parks and Architectural History
Boguchwała is home to the Lubomirski Palace complex, a late Baroque residence dating from the mid-18th century. It also includes a geometric landscape park, likewise dating from the 18th century, laid out in the French style. The residence and park offer different ways to appreciate the architecture and garden design of this period.
The Wodzicki Palace in Tyczyn is surrounded by a landscape park with a valuable collection of mature trees and natural monuments. The entire palace-and-park complex was entered in the heritage register in 1968. Summer visits to the palace are a tradition: a pilot tour organized by Rzeszowski County in August 2024 attracted great interest. It was subsequently decided to continue these encounters with history. Before your trip, check which visit dates are currently scheduled.
The Dominican monastery complex in Borek Stary adds a different historical note. It is a Marian shrine, and its late Baroque church was built between 1684 and 1726. In Rzeszowski, secular residences and a religious complex thus stand side by side as distinct aspects of the region’s historic heritage.
Forest, River and Nature Trails
The “Mójka” nature reserve protects beech-fir forest habitats as well as beavers living in wetlands. The Wisłok flows through the central part of Rzeszowski County and forms several branches and old river channels in the Sandomierz Basin. These two natural features offer different points of focus: forest and wetlands on the one hand, and the basin’s branching waterways on the other.
The yellow-marked “Jelenia” hiking trail offers a specific route through the area: it passes through ravines and along streams to the “Błędny Kamień” natural monument. If you travel on the Przeworsk–Dynów narrow-gauge railway, it is also useful to know that the line passes through Rzeszowski County. A journey on the line takes about three hours; check operating conditions before your trip.
Museums and Discoveries in Sołonka and Kamień
The salt cascade in Sołonka is a popular destination and was opened to visitors in 2010. Also in Sołonka, the Regional Museum houses archaeological, geological, historical and ethnographic collections. The cascade and the museum offer different ways to experience the place: an excursion destination on the one hand, and collections relating to nature, the past and everyday culture on the other.
Kamień is home to the Harmonica Museum, located at the cultural center. It also has the “MAŁE ARBORETUM” leisure and education park. A body of water in Kamień-Podlesie lies along the “Zdołga” nature and environmental education trail. The three attractions cover different topics—musical instruments, a park and environmental education—without needing to be combined into a single route.
A Regional Specialty
Futomski bulwiok gives the region’s food culture a distinctive flavor. This pastry from Rzeszowski County is filled with potatoes, cheese and plenty of mint. The recipe has been passed down from generation to generation; in 2007, bulwiok was added to Poland’s list of regional and traditional products. Its ingredients, handed-down recipe and official listing each describe a different aspect of this specialty.
Getting Around
The A4 motorway passes through Rzeszowski County, and Rzeszów–Jasionka Airport is also located in the county. If you plan to travel on the Przeworsk–Dynów narrow-gauge railway, allow about three hours for the journey. Check operating conditions in advance if you would like to include the railway in your trip.
