Machowa offers several points to consider when planning a trip: the timber-built Holy Trinity Church, the surviving park as a remnant of the Ankwicz estate complex, and cycling routes. Wet meadows and forests on the northern edge of the village add a landscape dimension to its cultural character, serving as a refuge for wild birds.

The Wooden Holy Trinity Church

The Holy Trinity Church in Machowa is a single-nave wooden church built using log construction. With this building method, wooden beams are joined in layers to form the walls. The shingle roof is also part of the building style; the chancel has a three-sided termination. “Single-nave” describes a church space with one main nave and helps distinguish its layout from that of churches with multiple naves. The construction, roofing and shape of the chancel thus provide different clues for identifying the building’s style.

The smaller sacristy is on the north side of the chancel, and the larger one is on its south side. The different sizes and positions of the two sacristies also shape the chancel area. At the center of the nave ceiling is a depiction of the Transfiguration of Christ, with the four Evangelists shown on either side. The ceiling painting is thus arranged around a central subject and four flanking depictions.

Park of the Former Ankwicz Estate

A spacious park with old trees survives in Machowa from the former Ankwicz estate complex. Unlike the church, the focus here is not on architectural form and furnishings, but on the park as a surviving part of the former estate. Its spaciousness and mature trees make it a cultural and landscape landmark. Together with the wooden church, the park reveals two distinct facets of Machowa: sacred architecture and a surviving estate landscape.

The route described in 2013 returns to Pilzno; Machowa is an intermediate point, not the starting point or destination.

Wet Meadows and Forests on the Edge of the Village

Wet meadows and forests stretch along the northern edge of the village and serve as a refuge for wild birds. This habitat adds another dimension to the church’s architecture, the former estate park and the cycling routes. The landscape is clearly located: it lies on the northern edge of Machowa. For trip planning, it offers another way to experience the village alongside culture and cycling, without requiring all interests to be combined in a single activity.
