More than 600 exhibitions over four decades: Galeria Sztuki MOK has made a distinctive cultural mark on Dębica. But the city can also be explored through its parks, the history of its garrison and the landscape to the south. These themes offer different ways to plan a stay, without requiring a fixed itinerary.
Art, Culture and History
Miejski Ośrodek Kultury hosts cultural events and offers educational programs and workshops in dance, visual arts, theatre and traditional culture. Its venues include Dom Kultury Mors, Dom Kultury and Kino „Śnieżka”, as well as Galeria Sztuki MOK. The program ranges from exhibitions, cinema and cultural events to practical classes. If you want to plan your visit around a specific date, check the current program.
The Regional Museum in Dębica offers a different historical perspective: its permanent exhibition is devoted to the history of the Dębica garrison, particularly the Austro-Hungarian period and the Battle of Gorlice. Those interested in the area’s military history can also explore a dedicated route: the Partisan Trail of the Home Army’s II Group in Dębica County. It commemorates battle sites where soldiers of the II Group of the 5th Regiment of Mounted Riflemen of the Home Army fought during Operation „Burza”. There is a red-marked walking route and a green-marked cycling route; check trail conditions and markings on site.
Two Parks, Different Features
Jordanowski Park has play equipment, a street-workout area and an outdoor gym. It also has a cycling town where children can learn about road safety. Skarbek-Borowskiego Park is divided into seven themed areas, including an activity area and an educational area. The parks therefore have distinct features: Jordanowski focuses on specific play and exercise facilities, along with road safety, while Skarbek-Borowskiego is organized around themes. If you’re travelling with children or want to include some activity in your explorations, these features may help you choose. Parks can change during renovations, so check the current facilities before your visit.
Landscape to the South
Dębica’s southern outskirts also give the area its scenic character: partly wooded ridges are cut through by stream valleys, gorges and gullies. This is quite different from the city’s cultural and historical themes, and offers another perspective to consider when planning your trip. You can decide whether art and history, park facilities or the landscape will play a bigger part in your stay, without trying to fit every interest into a single itinerary.
Getting There
Dębica is an important railway junction. The Kraków–Lviv railway line has run through the city since 1856. There are also notable road connections: Dębica lies on the A4 motorway, which forms part of the international E40 route, and has the Dębica–Wschód and Dębica–Zachód motorway junctions. National Road 94 also runs through the city as a toll-free alternative to the A4. Check current traffic conditions when planning your journey.
Culture, history, parks, landscape and transport links offer different ways to explore Dębica. As you plan, consider which of these interests you most; the exhibitions, workshops, museum topics and park facilities each have their own focus.
