Lućmierz is part of the Zgierz area. A stay here brings together regional history, remembrance and independent forest destinations. The names Lućmierz, Lućmierz Ośrodek and Lućmierz-Las should not be used interchangeably: historic ownership and present-day places to visit should each be considered separately.
A memorial trail with a named starting point
The blue-marked Szlak Zgierz–Lućmierz is 16 kilometres long and is part of the “Szlak Pamięci Hitlerowskiego Ludobójstwa”. It begins at Kiliński Square in Zgierz and leads to memorial sites in Zgierz and Lućmierz. Monuments there commemorate the martyrdom of Poles.
This thematic focus sets the trail apart from an ordinary recreational walk. Plan the section you actually wish to visit and bear in mind the nature of the memorial sites. The stated total length is neither a walking time nor the distance from every accommodation to the first place to visit.
Historic ownership and different place names
Around 1835, Wilhelm Chrystian Werner, a manufacturer from Ozorków, acquired the Lućmierz estate. The municipal history describes the transformation of the old village into a manorial farm with a manor house; this place is now known as Lućmierz Ośrodek. The forest, now called Lućmierz-Las, was also part of the estate at the time.
Including the forest, the historic estate covered 3,106 morgens. This figure refers to the former estate as a whole and is not the area of a present-day visitor facility. Nor does the historical account confirm that the manor house is freely accessible to visitors or that a guided tour of the estate is currently operated.
Remembrance in Lućmierz-Las
For Lućmierz-Las, the list of the Institute of National Remembrance records a grave for around 500 victims of the Intelligenzaktion, murdered in autumn 1939. This is a separately identified historical memorial site. The approximate number of victims and the time period should not be conflated with other wartime events in the wider forest area.
Anyone wishing to visit such a site should check access and the exact location in advance and treat the grave with respect. The documented existence of the grave does not indicate current visitor opening arrangements or an organised tour.
A separate nature-focused experience in the forest area
In the 1,750-hectare Grotnicki Forest Complex, the forestry administration describes a circular trail approximately 1.5 kilometres long. Seven stops are listed for an approximately one-and-a-half-hour nature experience, where visitors can learn about plant communities, forest site types and important tree species. This time estimate applies to the described nature experience, not to the 16-kilometre memorial route.
The Dąbrowa Grotnicka and Grądy nad Lindą nature reserves lie within the forest complex. Covering almost 56 hectares in the Gmina Zgierz, Grądy nad Lindą protects the source area of the Linda. According to municipal information, the forest district office should be notified before a visit. A simple accommodation reservation is not a substitute for this recommendation.
Search for accommodation in Lućmierz based on its exact location and the places you actually plan to visit. Check travel arrangements, permitted access and dates separately. A guided tour or transfer is included only if the specific offer explicitly confirms it.
