Głowno combines a reservoir of more than 30 hectares in the town centre with an inland dune landscape and several buildings with clearly documented dates. This gives you a choice when planning your trip between summer days by the water, nature and local history.
Water, Beach and Nature Trail
Zalew Mrożyczka is a reservoir in the centre of Głowno, fed by the Mroga River. A sandy beach near the town centre is a popular place for residents and visitors to relax, particularly in summer. The lake thus combines a central location with seasonal leisure by the water.
The bathing area next to the beach is monitored by health services and supervised by a lifeguard during the summer season. As this supervision is seasonal, check the latest information about bathing arrangements before your visit.
There is also a boat rental right by the beach, offering pedal boats shaped like cars, swans and dolphins. Rental is planned to operate seasonally from late spring through September; check availability for your dates before visiting.
There is also a nature trail at Zalew Mrożyczka, next to the town hall. Its information boards cover ecology and environmental protection. Alongside seasonal recreational activities, the lake is also a place to explore nature-related topics.
Dunes and Nature Conservation
Marakan, an inland dune complex located almost in the centre of Głowno, offers a different landscape from the reservoir. The Zabrzeźnia forest nature reserve lies within the town limits and protects the silver fir (Abies alba). Here, the species reaches the northern boundary of its natural range. Marakan and Zabrzeźnia therefore represent different aspects of nature: a distinctive landform and the protection of a tree species.
Local History and Architecture
The Dąb Wolności (Oak of Freedom) stands on Plac Wolności. It was planted in 1928 in the then marketplace to mark the tenth anniversary of the restoration of Polish independence. The date and occasion make the tree a tangible point of reference for local history.
The Zabrzeźnia manor house and park complex comprises a manor house built from larch wood in 1840 and the remains of a historic park. The Church of St James the Apostle was rebuilt between 1923 and 1930 and laid out in the form of a Greek cross. The Pałac Jabłońskich was built in 1905–1906 in the eclectic style.
These buildings can be viewed through different features: the manor house for its material and park setting, the church for its floor plan and reconstruction, and the palace for its style and period of construction. Together with the Dąb Wolności, they offer several distinct ways to explore Głowno’s history.
Getting There and Accommodation
Głowno railway station is on railway line No. 15, which connects Bednary with Łódź Kaliska station. If you are travelling by train, check the current timetable for your journey.
When planning your stay, it is worth distinguishing the seasonal activities at the lake from the town’s nature and history. If the beach or pedal boat rental is the reason for your trip, take their seasonal availability into account. When looking for a hotel in Głowno, you can then compare the specific details of each accommodation with your own requirements.
