A precise square name helps place Aleksandrów Łódzki in its historical context: the Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka stands on the west side of Plac Kościuszki, at the corner of Łęczycka Street. The square was laid out as a central public space in 1815, when the settlement was founded. The town hall is on the south side of the market square. The town’s history therefore brings together a clearly identified square, a church address, and a separate landmark for the town hall.

The Church and the Town’s History

The Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka was built in 1827–1828 by the local Protestant congregation. It is a Neoclassical building with a rectangular floor plan. Style and floor plan describe different features: Neoclassicism classifies the architecture, while the floor plan describes the shape of the building. The Evangelical Church complex in Aleksandrów Łódzki consists of the church and the rectory. The term “complex” broadens the focus from a single building to two associated structures.

The town hall was built in 1824, the municipal weighing house was built in the 1820s in the Neoclassical style, and the church followed in 1827–1828. All three buildings thus date from the 1820s. By contrast, the present-day building of Jatki Miejskie, the municipal butcher and baker stalls, is a reconstruction from the final decade of the 20th century. This later building adds a distinctly more recent layer to the town’s history and differs from the early structures.

A Different Place, a Different Location

The Jewish cemetery is on the northwestern edge of the town. It was established in 1822 at the intersection of what are now Górna and Wąska streets, and is currently closed. Unlike the church and town hall, its location can be identified by the edge of town and a street intersection. Bear its closure in mind when planning any potential visits; the precise location also helps place this historic site geographically.

Leisure and Getting Around

The town park is at Plac Tadeusza Kościuszki, while the municipal “OLIMPIJCZYK” swimming pool is at Bankowa 5. Note the difference between the square names: Plac Kościuszki and Plac Tadeusza Kościuszki refer to different locations. This helps you distinguish the addresses when making your own plans. If you are planning to visit the swimming pool, check its opening hours in advance. A municipal publication from 2022 lists Aleksandrów Łódzki as a place along the Łódzki Szlak Konny. This route information adds a point of reference for travelers interested in horse-riding trails to the historic and leisure sites.

When looking for a hotel in Aleksandrów Łódzki, you can start by deciding what matters most: would you like to focus on the town’s history at Plac Kościuszki, or also take the leisure sites mentioned into account?
