Rábahídvég brings together the history of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Csodaszarvas Landscape Park, and the Rába river tour. Local and architectural history sit alongside an educational trail, park activities, and specific landing points for paddlers. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between an interest in cultural history, a visit to the park, and a paddling trip.

The Church of the Holy Trinity: history across several eras

The Roman Catholic church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was already standing in Rábahídvég in 1342. It took on its present Baroque form after several renovations and extensions in the 18th century. Several centuries therefore separate the earliest historical mention from its later architectural form; the church cannot be attributed to just one building phase.

Its religious history was also changeable: at the end of the 16th century, the Church of the Holy Trinity passed into Protestant hands during the Reformation. In 1674, Catholics reclaimed it during the Counter-Reformation. This sequence adds a religious shift at the same building to its architectural history.

István Dorfmeister painted the altarpieces for the two side altars in 1773; only copies can be seen today. The date places the furnishings within the church’s later development and adds a specific, named work of art to its history.

Other historical traces in Rábahídvég

An important Roman road ran through the area of Rábahídvég. The town’s history thus extends beyond the development of a single building to include an earlier transport route.

Another historic building is the Seebach family castle. It was built in the first half of the 19th century in the Neoclassical style with Baroque elements, and currently houses a school. The combination of the two stylistic features clarifies its architectural classification; at the same time, its current use as a school is part of the building’s present-day role in Rábahídvég.

Educational trail and activities at Csodaszarvas Landscape Park

The 16-hectare Csodaszarvas Landscape Park has an educational trail with explanatory signs. This lets visitors combine their time in the park with information along the trail. Check whether the trail is currently open before planning your visit.

The park’s activities include a woodland playground, a trampoline, a willow-basket carousel, and traditional games. These leisure activities offer a different focus from the educational trail: you can plan your time in the park around the topics that interest you. Also check that the activities are currently available before your trip.

An association supports the operation of the craft yard in the landscape park, which showcases traditional crafts. This adds traditional crafts to the park’s range of themes. If you want to plan your visit around the craft yard, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.

Landing on the Rába river tour

Paddlers on the Rába river tour can land at two places in Rábahídvég: at the bridge in the town center or, a few hundred meters earlier, by Csodaszarvas Landscape Park. The difference when choosing is their location: one landing point is in the town center, the other by the landscape park. Check local conditions before setting out.
