A cycle route in Vas County leads to five spa complexes, while Romanesque churches and protected landscapes offer other discoveries. Eisenburg therefore has more than one focus: you can combine thermal experiences with cycling and also explore natural or cultural history.
Thermal Baths and Cycling
The TermĂĄl KerĂ©kpĂĄros TĂșraĂșt leads to five spa complexes in Vas County. The route combines cycling with visits to architectural and natural attractions, as well as other spas.
The two internationally recognized thermal baths in BĂŒk and SĂĄrvĂĄr are 25 kilometers apart. BĂŒkfĂŒrdĆ lies where Alpokalja and Kisalföld meet, two kilometers from the small town of BĂŒk. It is an independent medical and tourism center as well as one of Hungaryâs spa resorts. SĂĄrvĂĄri GyĂłgy- Ă©s WellnessfĂŒrdĆ offers a wide range of medical, health-promoting and recreational services. The five complexes are destinations on the cycle route; the 25-kilometer distance, however, refers to the distance between the baths in BĂŒk and SĂĄrvĂĄr.
Protected Landscapes
ĂrottkĆ Nature Park is located in the northwestern part of Vas County. It includes the entire 4,303-hectare KĆszeg Landscape Protection Area. The ĆrsĂ©g landscape in southwestern Vas has significant ethnographic and cultural-historical value. ĆrsĂ©g National Park was established on March 1, 2002, to preserve and present the natural, ethnographic and cultural-historical values of ĆrsĂ©g.
Romanesque Architecture and Regional History
St. Michaelâs Church in CsempeszkopĂĄcs was built in the Romanesque style around 1250; the Romanesque church of JĂĄk Abbey was consecrated in 1256. The dates refer to different events: for St. Michaelâs, they indicate the approximate time of construction, while for JĂĄk, they indicate the consecration.
Since opening in 1973, the Vasi Skanzen has rescued and rebuilt 43 buildings from 27 settlements. The museum presents the rural way of life and folk architecture of Vas County over the past two centuries.
The NĂĄdasdy Ferenc Museum displays art and cultural history objects from the castles and manor houses of Vas County. Its exhibition on the history of the Hussars is described as unique in Hungary.
Local Products and Food and Drink Guide
At the NatĂșrbolt in Jurisics Castle in KĆszeg, KĆszeg wines, especially red wines, Hegyalja rapeseed and chestnut honey, gingerbread, and jams and syrups from LukĂĄcshĂĄza are displayed and sold. The Vas County Tourism Association also provides travelers with a county food and drink map and an online search for recommended restaurants and wineries.
The shop and the food and drink listings serve different purposes: the castle shop focuses on specific products, while the map and online search help visitors find recommended restaurants and wineries. Listings may change, so it is worth checking the latest information before making a choice.
