Gersekaráti Sárvíz Lake gives Gersekarát a clear focus on the water: the 36-hectare lake is a reservoir created for recreation. It was formed in 1992 by damming the Sárvíz and Csengő streams. Protected natural areas and cultural attractions complement the lakeside setting.

On Sárvíz Lake: fishing and seasonal beaches

More than 50 developed fishing spots are available on the side facing the village. The spacious, well-maintained grassy beach for summer recreation is on the eastern shore. The beach on Sárvíz Lake in Gersekarát is also a designated natural bathing site; this designation is seasonal. There is a designated, separate dog beach in the park area. Please bear in mind that bathing is permitted only seasonally. The grassy beach also operates seasonally; check the current arrangements before travelling. Operating details for the dog beach may also change.

Protected landscape: oak woodland and moor

North of Gersekarát lies the locally protected “Legelő erdő”, a pure oak woodland covering more than 15 hectares. The Fias-tó offers a different type of natural landscape: it is Gersekarát’s largest protected moor and covers 3 hectares and 2,079 square metres. Protected peat moss grows there. The areas differ both in size and landscape type: a large oak woodland contrasts with a smaller moor featuring protected peat moss.

Church, themed trails and local history

Gersekarát’s church, dating from the Árpád era, is a nationally protected historic monument. A Calvary with the themed trails “Családok” and “Élővilág” is located directly beside it. Millenniumi Park features limestone and wooden sculptural groups, as well as a Kneipp health centre. The pilgrimage at the Karátföldi Bükkhegyi vineyard, with a procession Mass, is also part of local tradition. Revived in 2009, it has taken place annually ever since; check the date for the relevant year before travelling.

The permanent exhibition at Gersekarát Primary School is open to everyone. It showcases the pupils’ long-standing work on local history and regional studies, as well as their efforts to preserve traditions. The Gersekarát Village Museum displays everyday items and household and decorative objects from local life in the past. The exhibition and the museum have different focuses: the former presents pupils’ work and the preservation of traditions, while the latter displays objects from everyday life in the past. If you plan to visit these attractions, check opening hours and current visitor arrangements in advance.

Choose the right time for your trip

When planning your trip, bear in mind the difference between the seasonal bathing-site designation and the pilgrimage, which takes place annually. If you are looking for a holiday rental for a stay in Gersekarát, these factors can help you choose when to visit. Confirm the current date of the pilgrimage; it is also best to check beach operations and visitor arrangements before travelling.
