Oberhambach combines a historic spring site with a variety of ways to explore the landscape on foot or by e-bike. Petersquelle and Sauerbrunnen, the routes around the Enchanted Forest, and a longer cycling loop offer different highlights. When planning, it helps to distinguish between the route lengths and their individual features.

Springs, Water and Local History

The Petersquelle and Sauerbrunnen spring complex reopened to visitors in 2015. The site features a water-themed area and a watercourse with modern play equipment. This means that, alongside the history of the springs, the focus is also on engaging water-themed attractions.

The history of collecting water at Sauerbrunnen and Petersquelle dates back more than 2,000 years. Written records of spa operations at the site date from the late 15th century; a spa house was completed in 1791. These milestones mark different chapters in the site's history: the springs' long-standing use, the spa operations documented in writing, and a specific year of construction.

Hiking Around the Enchanted Forest

A route of about 4 km in the Enchanted Forest circles Hambacher Felsen, with numerous stations inviting visitors to try things out. The route is considered easy, with only a few somewhat more challenging sections. As conditions can vary seasonally, it is a good idea to check trail conditions before setting out.

A longer hiking option is the Rund um den Zauberwald Dream Loop. It is approximately 10 km long and links ancient forests, species-rich meadows and historic sites. Zauberwald is classified as a premium walking trail in the HunsrĂĽck; as certifications can change, check the classification before your trip if needed. The approximately 4 km route and the roughly 10 km Dream Loop differ considerably in length, offering different options for planning your day.

Getting There and Cycling Route

The Enchanted Forest can be reached by public transport. Check current connections and timetables before travelling. By car, take the turnoff from the B269 towards HunsrĂĽck-Ferienpark Hambachtal near Oberhambach. After 200 metres, turn left towards the Zauberwald car park. Check road conditions and parking availability on site.

For a longer two-wheeled excursion, try the 43.7 km, moderately difficult RadLust-Schleife HimmelReich e-bike loop. In Oberhambach, it includes the Enchanted Forest and Sauerbrunnen; a detour leads to Sauerbrunnen and Petersquelle. The tour therefore differs from the hiking routes around the Enchanted Forest both in mode of transport and in length.
