Wiesenbronn combines winegrowing with a rich local history. The wine education trail focuses on grapevines and cellar work; the town hall, church and historic buildings represent different chapters in the village’s past. Trails to the wine labyrinth and the TraumRunde Wiesenbronn hiking route round out the attractions. You can tailor your stay to focus on wine, outdoor activities or culture.

Wine Landscape and Grape Varieties

Wiesenbronn lies at the northern foot of the Schwanberg, the Steigerwald’s westernmost foothill. The wine education trail leads through the local vineyards and, in the Schiller and Geißberg vineyard sites, provides information about the winemakers’ work in the vineyards and the production of wine in the cellar. It also covers the diversity of grape varieties, as well as the taste and distinctive qualities of wines from the Steigerwald. The trail thus offers insights into different aspects of winegrowing—from working among the vines to processing the grapes in the cellar.

About one third of Wiesenbronn’s vineyards are planted with red grape varieties. These include Spätburgunder, Schwarzriesling, Portugieser, Bläufränkisch, Blauburger, Domina, Regent, Cabernet Dorsa, Cabernet Mitos and Dornfelder. This selection gives the wine education trail’s focus on grape varieties a specific local context.

Trails to the Wine Labyrinth

The Wiesenbronn wine labyrinth invites visitors to walk and hike, as well as to relax and meditate. Two hiking routes lead there from the village center; both are about 1.5 km long and barrier-free. Check local conditions before setting out.

Another option is the TraumRunde Wiesenbronn. It starts at Seegarten in the village center, leads to Koboldsee and offers a variant route to the wine labyrinth. The trails to the labyrinth and the TraumRunde offer different landmarks: the wine labyrinth is the destination on the two routes from the village center, while Koboldsee is also part of the TraumRunde route.

Renaissance Architecture and a Clockwork Show

The parish church of Zum Heiligen Kreuz in Wiesenbronn was built in 1603 and has Renaissance features. Its furnishings include a Renaissance altar, pulpit and baptismal font, as well as Renaissance choir stalls and a Renaissance gallery. These individual elements give the church a distinct art-historical character.

The town hall also has a distinctive feature: it has two projecting bays with clocks. On the eastern bay, a clockwork show at the hour depicts a farmer and a Häcker (a local winegrower) striking at each other. This animated clock provides a vivid contrast to the church’s Renaissance features.

Village History and Places of Remembrance

The former synagogue in Wiesenbronn was rebuilt in 1792/93 and served as a prayer room, meeting place and schoolhouse. From 2004, its new owners worked with great dedication to restore it largely to its original condition. It is also a memorial and a place of remembrance for respected citizens of the village.

The arcade cemetery is also part of the village’s history: it was established around 1600 and expanded in 1849 and 1972. The suitcase monument commemorates the expulsion of the Jews. Alongside the former synagogue, it draws attention to the memory of Jewish life in Wiesenbronn and its persecution.

Crafts and Historic Buildings

The BrechhĂĽtte, also known as the flax-breaking house, was built in Wiesenbronn in 1846. At the BrechhĂĽtte, flax grown in the surrounding fields was dried with hot air and then softened by breaking it with flax breakers.

The former press and storage house was built around 1550 as part of the fortified church complex. It adds another building from the time of the fortified church to the village’s history. In Wiesenbronn, winegrowing, historic architecture and places of remembrance stand alongside one another as distinct points of interest—a basis for shaping your own exploration around your interests in the landscape, trails or local history.
