Geslau combines outdoor activities, nature and swimming options: marked hiking and cycling trails sit alongside circular routes, a forest and orchard nature trail, a bathing pond, a heated forest swimming pool and an indoor pool. This gives you different ways to tailor your stay. The Karrach Trail and the Bat Trail provide particularly clear route details; the Karrach Mill and the Bat Cave add local and historical context to the trails.

Karrach Trail and Karrach Mill

The Karrach Trail is one of six newly organised circular routes in the municipality of Geslau. Its 4.1-kilometre loop starts in Gunzendorf, heads towards the Karrach Mill and returns to the starting point. One section follows the Way of St. James. Its length, circular layout and named starting point provide concrete details to help you choose a route.

The trail is named after the Karrach Mill, known in the local dialect as “Koari”. The large Karrach Lake and the smaller, somewhat secluded Karrach Lake are next to the mill. The small lake is mentioned as early as 1418. This brings together a local dialect name and a historical reference.

Bat Trail and historic cellar

The Bat Trail is 4.4 kilometres long; five stops provide information about local features, and the route passes the protected Bat Cave. It was once a beer and ice cellar belonging to an old inn in Geslau. The two trails differ in length by 0.3 kilometres; the circular layout is a distinguishing feature of the Karrach Trail, while the stops and cellar give the Bat Trail a different focus.

Nature trail, church path and swimming options

The forest and orchard nature trail adds another named theme to the selection. The short, accessible Church Path in Geslau has a different focus: its many benches invite visitors to linger and meditate. Alongside the themed trails, there is also a path whose specific features are its short distance, accessibility and places to sit.

If you would like to include swimming, you can choose between a bathing pond, a heated forest swimming pool and an indoor pool. Check the current status of your chosen facility before travelling. This allows you to coordinate your swimming option with the other activities you have planned for your stay.

More to explore in the wider Ansbach destination

The wider Ansbach destination also offers independent cultural themes. The Franconian Literature Trail in Wolframs-Eschenbach is a 2.2-kilometre accessible circular route around the town’s fortifications. Its 15 information boards cover authors from the Middle Ages to the present day whose works explore Franconia. A different perspective is offered by the “wiegen & messen” museum in Königshofen: it displays more than 4,000 exhibits, including historic scales, associated weights, cubits, folding rulers and vessels for measuring grain. Thus, in the wider Ansbach destination, historical measures are another cultural theme to explore alongside literature.
