Périssac offers several points of interest for a stay: an easy circular walk, mills and winegrowing, as well as architectural and local history. The Boucle du Moulin gives a walk a specific time frame; at the Moulin des Grandes Vignes, the opportunity to visit, its ability to mill wheat and its connection to the winegrowing region all come together. The Domaine de la Chataignière offers vineyard tours and wine tastings. Those more interested in cultural history will find distinct points of interest at the Église Saint-Pierre and the Monument Sidi Brahim. The choice therefore ranges from a clearly defined outdoor activity to historical subjects with different time references.

Circular Walk from Périssac

The Boucle du Moulin is an easy 7 km circular walk from Périssac with 82 metres of elevation gain. The stated duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes. For planning your day, the stated time frame matters as well as the distance. The route crosses the Davanon stream and passes along woods and vineyards. The stream crossing, woods and vineyard landscape all shape the same circular route. If you want to include a walk as a separate activity, you can take the distance, elevation gain and stated duration into account together.

Mill and Winegrowing

The Moulin des Grandes Vignes can be visited and is still able to mill wheat. It opens onto the winegrowing region of Périssac. Timing is important for a tour: tours are available year-round only by prior appointment. The mill thus combines a tangible connection to wheat milling with a link to the winegrowing landscape, while tours are subject to a clear visiting requirement.

The Domaine de la Chataignière offers vineyard tours and wine tastings. The two activities have different focuses: a vineyard tour focuses on the vineyard, while a tasting focuses on the wine. The Musée de la Vigne et du Vin has a collection of historical tools used in winegrowing and winemaking. The Domaine’s offerings therefore sit alongside a historical perspective on work in the vineyard and winemaking.

Church and Architectural History

The neo-Gothic Église Saint-Pierre de Périssac dates from the 19th century and was built on the site of an 11th-century Romanesque church. The two centuries therefore refer to different churches on the same site: the Romanesque predecessor and the later neo-Gothic building. The Église has three naves; its 45-metre-high bell tower houses the Marie-Anne bell. The building’s history thus combines a chronological context with specific architectural features. The three naves describe the church’s layout, while the tower’s height and the bell’s name identify individual details of the building.

Monument Sidi Brahim and Local History

The Monument Sidi Brahim is located in Périssac. The town is the birthplace of Captain Oscar de Géreaux, who died a hero on 24 September 1845 during the Battle of Sidi-Brahim in Algeria. The bronze trophies associated with the monument were transferred to Périssac on 27 September 1963; the monument created from them was inaugurated on 10 July 1966. The sequence of events is clear: the captain’s death in 1845 was followed by the transfer of the bronze trophies in 1963 and the inauguration of the monument in 1966.
