From Le Teich SNCF train station, it is a 15-minute walk to the entrance of the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich. Check local conditions for pedestrians in advance. The reserve has a clear focus on nature: a circular trail, observation huts and elevated viewpoints offer different ways to explore the area and its birdlife. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus mainly on a route through the landscapes or schedule specific birdwatching stops.

Birdwatching at the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich

The six-kilometre circular trail passes through all the reserve’s landscapes and along its boundaries. Along the trail, 20 enclosed observation huts are located at spots suited to birdwatching. Four elevated viewpoints offer views of the reserve’s landscapes and surrounding area; they are also suitable for observing active bird migration. The huts and viewpoints add specific observation spots to the route. Bird enthusiasts can therefore plan their visit around both the trail and the different perspectives on the area.

Landscapes and Trails in the Leyre Delta

The Leyre Delta brings together salt meadows, reed beds, pastureland, sandbanks and tidal flats. Fresh water and seawater meet here. A nine-kilometre circular trail follows the Leyre through gallery forest in the delta, then continues downstream through wetlands surrounded by marshland. Compared with the six-kilometre circular trail in the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich, the stated route is longer; the landscapes and routes described also differ. The distances can help you choose between the two circuits without specifying a walking time.

More Ways to Explore Le Teich

Les pistes de Robin are themed trails in Le Teich. You can explore them on foot or by bicycle, following games, puzzles and observation activities. The activities relate to the landscapes of the municipality, offering a different focus from birdwatching in the reserve or a circuit along the Leyre. If you enjoy active outings, these trails offer an approach that combines observation with playful activities.

Group canoe trips on the Leyre are also among the nature experiences organised from Le Teich: the Maison de la Nature du Bassin d’Arcachon (MNBA) offers trips with a nature guide. Availability may vary by season. If you would like to include this activity in your travel plans, check in advance whether it is offered during your preferred dates.

Swimming in Summer

Baignade aménagée au Teich is a swimming area next to the harbour and the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich. It is supervised in summer. There are picnic areas and children’s play facilities nearby. You can plan swimming as a separate activity alongside the trails and observation spots; seasonal supervision is an important factor to consider.

Architecture and History

The Église Saint André du Teich was built in 1923–1924 in the neo-Romanesque style. The church houses a polychrome wooden statue of Saint James the pilgrim dating from the 17th century. The two dates refer to different historical periods: one gives the church’s construction dates, while the other indicates the century in which the statue was made. This adds a cultural dimension to the nature and landscape experiences in Le Teich.
