The Chocholík Observation Tower gives Drnovice U Vyškova a distinctive viewpoint: the 26-metre-high steel tower stands on Chocholík Hill and has 144 steps. From the top, you can see the surrounding area; in suitable visibility, views extend as far as the peaks of the Beskids.

Paths to the observation tower

The tower is freely accessible year-round. A paved path leads to it from the local cemetery, and marked hiking trails also lead to the tower. As access conditions may change for safety reasons, check current accessibility before your visit.

Church, chateau and local history

The Parish Church of St. Lawrence adds an architectural-history focus to the viewpoint. It has a late Gothic core; the presbytery and nave were extended with a tower in the 16th century. The late Gothic core and later extension represent two distinct periods in the church’s history.

The pilgrimage to St. Lawrence in Drnovice is associated with 10 August. If you would like to plan your visit around this date, check current event dates in advance.

Drnovice Chateau was built by Jan Mundy between 1866 and 1869. From 1899 to 1947, it housed a care institution for 80 women. Its history therefore includes both a clearly dated construction period and a later institutional use that was also limited to a specific period.

Compared with the church, the chateau shifts the focus of local history: the church is notable for its late Gothic core and 16th-century extension, while the chateau is associated with its 19th-century construction and use until 1947. Visitors interested in history can thus compare two distinct periods.

Drnovice Cultural Centre was used for exhibitions, conferences, discussion groups and performances by local amateur actors. Amateur theatre has a long tradition in the municipality. If cultural events are a factor in planning your stay, check in advance whether a specific event is taking place during your trip.

North of Chocholík Hill, among the fields near Drnovice, there is a flat, reed-covered depression known as “Mokřad pod Chocholíkem” (“Wetland below Chocholík”). Grass, shrubs and trees characterise the surrounding area. The wetland is not protected; the name is probably not official.

The depression offers a different landscape from Chocholík: a viewpoint on a hill on one hand, and a flat, reed-covered hollow among the fields on the other.

There are two access options, which differ in their starting point and distance: from the Drnovice Na Žlebě bus stop, a blue-marked trail leads to the wetland in about 1.9 km; from the cemetery, it is approximately 1.3 km via a yellow-marked field track. The cemetery route is therefore the shorter of the two options listed. The field track from the cemetery to the wetland is suitable for all types of bicycles. Distances are approximate and trail conditions may change; check the route before setting out.
