The parish church of Saint George in Marinci is a concrete starting point for exploring local history. It was built in 1758 in the late Baroque style; the bell tower was added in 1808. The iconostasis and icons date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The chronology therefore tells more than the story of a single construction year: the church, tower and furnishings belong to different periods. If you are putting the history of sacred architecture into context, it is worth considering these details separately.
Churches and Building Phases
The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the town center is also part of Marinci’s building history. It was built in 1855 and destroyed in 1992 during the Croatian War. Construction of a new church with the same dedication began in 2003. It was completed and blessed by Bishop Marin Srakić on September 8, 2005. The church chronology thus includes different building phases and historical turning points, which can be clearly distinguished by their respective dates.
Chapel and Memorial Site
The Chapel of Saint Paraskeva and the “Ranjena golubica” monument are also part of the local history. The chapel was built in 1926 at a site where a masonry cross stood above flowing water. Erected in July 2003 in the local cemetery, the monument commemorates Croatian defenders and civilians who were victims of the Croatian War. Its dedication and location give it a different context from the building history of the churches.
Location and Historical Routes
Marinci lies on the Vuka River and near the D55 state road, which connects Vukovar and Vinkovci. For geographical orientation, both a river and a road linking the two cities are identified. A distinct historical perspective complements these geographical references: on October 13, 1991, the breakthrough operation ran along the Nuštar–Marinci–Bogdanovci–Vukovar axis.
In the wider regional area around Marinci, outside the town, the so-called Corn Road ran along several unpaved tracks through cornfields from the Vukovar suburb of LuĹľac to Bogdanovci. In southwestern Vukovar, a gray chapel marks the beginning of the Corn Road, which is part of the Path of Salvation. These sites belong to the wider regional context and are distinct from the churches and memorial sites within Marinci itself.

The church’s organs were made in Vienna by G. Peter Titza in 1863. These building and furnishing details refer to Nuštar and add to the regional context without replacing the local history of Marinci.
