Vitacura brings together art collections, a colonial-era building and Parque Bicentenario on the RĂo Mapocho. This offers several different ways to plan your visit: Latin American and European art, the architectural history of Casas de Lo Matta, or the park’s landscape and birdlife. If you’re looking for a holiday rental in Vitacura, these distinctions can help you tailor your stay to your interests.
Art collections at the Museo Ralli
The Museo Ralli de Santiago opened in 1992 as the second of five museums that the Fundación Harry Recanati makes accessible to the public in various countries. It houses collections of Latin American and European art and has 18 exhibition rooms as well as a sculpture courtyard. The collection’s themes and the layout offer two perspectives: the art is organized by regional connections, while the exhibition rooms and courtyard describe the museum’s structure. The opening year and its place in the group of five also provide a timeline in relation to the Fundación.
Casas de Lo Matta: Architectural History and Art
Casas de Lo Matta is a colonial-era building and was declared a national monument in 1984. Its period of construction and the year of its later designation are two different points of reference. In 2023, Lo Matta Cultural presented the exhibition “Lección de pintura,” featuring 39 classical paintings. The works included landscapes, human figures and objects, painted by Chilean and foreign artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. This gives the architectural history a specific connection to art from a defined period; the 39 paintings were part of this 2023 exhibition.
Casas de Lo Matta is an active cultural center. Visiting hours are listed as Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check opening hours before your visit.
The RĂo Mapocho and birdlife at Parque Bicentenario
Parque Bicentenario de Vitacura stretches along the eastern bank of the RĂo Mapocho, between the PĂ©rez Zujovic traffic interchange and Calle Isabel Montt. Its riverside location and the two named endpoints give the park a specific geographic setting. Its habitat is home to black-necked swans, taguas, herons and trile. These bird species add a natural aspect to the geographic description. If you’d like to take landscapes and birdlife into account when choosing a destination, this offers a different focus from art collections or architectural history.
Different focuses for your trip
There are also two distinct perspectives on landscape: the exhibition “Lección de pintura” featured painted landscapes, while Parque Bicentenario is defined by its riverside setting and the bird species that live there. The topics are connected without being equated: one is about subjects in paintings, the other about a described habitat. When looking for a holiday rental in Vitacura, you can first consider whether art, historic architecture or the landscape along the river matters most to you during your stay.
