Prijedor can be explored through several themes: Roman votive offerings, collections on traditional dress, historic buildings and opportunities to spend time outdoors. If you would like to plan your stay around your interests, you can give culture and nature different emphasis—from exhibition venues and religious buildings to hiking opportunities and seasonal bathing spots.

Museums and architectural history

The Lapidarium at the Kozara Museum permanently displays Roman votive monuments from the Ljubija mining district. These include dedications to the goddess Terra Mater and the Pannonian god Sedatus. As religious offerings, the monuments give the collection a clear focus: they connect finds from the mining district with deities identified by name.

The permanent exhibition “Identity, Heritage, Our Traditional Dress” offers a different perspective on the past. It presents traditional costumes and other exhibits in a contemporary setting. Ancient votive offerings and the presentation of traditional dress thus stand side by side as different ways of exploring history and cultural heritage.

The Stojanović Family Memorial House in Prijedor is an outpost of the Kozara Museum. It houses historical and art-historical exhibitions dedicated to the family. Its architectural history is also notable: the original building was constructed in 1893 and demolished in 1989. In 2007, the memorial house was rebuilt according to identical plans. This makes it possible to distinguish the history of today’s building from that of its predecessor.

Religious buildings and cultural venues

The present-day Church of the Holy Trinity replaced a wooden church that was destroyed in the city fire of 1882. The current church was consecrated on 1 September 1891. Mosques are also part of the documented history of the city: the site of the City Mosque, also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, together with its harem and grave stelae, was declared a national monument in October 2008. The Čaršijska Mosque in Prijedor received this designation in March 2003.

The “Sreten Stojanović” Gallery is an exhibition space on Prijedor’s main street. Its programme includes exhibitions, literary evenings, book presentations and concerts. The cultural offering therefore encompasses literature and music as well as exhibitions. Choosing the format that interests you can give your visit its own focus.

The city’s history also includes the Ukrainian Greek Catholic parish, founded in 1910. Its parishioners are Ukrainians who migrated from western Ukraine, particularly Galicia, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This background complements the architectural and museum themes with a history of migration and religious life.

Nature and regional products

There are also different options for nature enthusiasts. Prijedor offers visitors hiking opportunities. Kozara National Park is about 24 km from the city and includes forest walks, marked trails and the Mrakovica memorial complex with its monument and museum. You can choose between hiking opportunities in Prijedor and a nature destination with named trails and memorial sites.

There are several developed bathing spots in the Prijedor area that are visited during the summer months. They provide a seasonal complement to the hiking opportunities. If you would also like to include regional products in your discoveries, Potkozarska kuća in Prijedor is an integrated centre for promoting, marketing and selling local products from Potkozarje. Cultural collections, nature and regional products thus offer distinct interests to explore during your stay.
