Rochelle Railroad Park was the first park in the United States built specifically for visitors who want to watch trains in motion. Other attractions include a museum in a historic city hall and town hall, spirits made from locally grown grain, and skydiving experiences. The themes are quite distinct: railroads and history sit alongside craft production, activities at the airport, and a swimming pool with several water areas.

Train Watching and History

Rochelle Railroad Park has a clear and distinctive focus: it was built specifically for watching trains in motion. Two 24-hour webcams provide live views of the Rochelle Diamond. This makes it possible to follow railroad activity through live images as well; the park and the webcam views offer two different ways for railroad enthusiasts to engage with the subject.

The Flagg Township Museum focuses on history. Its collection includes more than 20,000 prehistoric and historic artifacts. The building that houses the museum was originally built in 1884 as a city hall and town hall. The collection and the building’s history thus offer two concrete perspectives: one spans objects from prehistoric to historic times, while the other points to the building’s original civic function.

Distilling Spirits in the Hub Theatre

Kennay Farms Distilling is located in the fully rebuilt historic Hub Theatre, in central Rochelle on the Lincoln Highway. The distillery produces craft spirits from locally grown grain. A member of the Kennay family grows, mills, and distills the grain. The origin of the raw material and the individual production steps are connected here.

Tours and tastings are available by prior appointment; availability may change. If you would like to include this in your visit, arrange a time in advance. This makes the appointment itself part of the planning, rather than assuming you can join spontaneously.

Skydiving at the Airport

Chicagoland Skydiving Center is located in rural Rochelle, Illinois. Its purpose-built, 20,000-square-foot campus is situated at an airport covering 200 acres. Facilities and equipment for skydiving are available for both professionals and first-time jumpers.

The center also offers turbine aircraft flights up to 18,000 feet. Availability depends on operating conditions.

Swimming and Water Areas

Spring Lake Pool & Splashpad features a waterslide, diving boards, a splash pad area, a children’s wading pool, and a large open swimming area. The different areas serve different purposes: the slide and diving boards complement the wading pool and splash pad area, while the open area provides room for swimming. This gives visitors to Rochelle a standalone water-based attraction alongside railroads, a museum, a distillery, and an airport.
