Discover Ossingen through its architectural history and walking routes: half-timbered houses and the Reformed Church define the historic village centre, while the «Around Husemersee» wine trail offers an option for an outing. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Ossingen, you can choose destinations to suit your interests: local history, wine or walking distance.

Clustered village with a distinctive architectural history

The historic village centre is a clustered village on a gentle slope above a stream hollow. Most of the buildings here are farmhouses belonging to arable and wine-growing farmers, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries; most are timber-framed. The former «Rössli» inn was the oldest tavern in the village. Its core dates from 1669/70, and the building was renovated in the 19th century. Today it is a residential house.

Another landmark is the Reformed Church, a building of regional significance dating from 1651 to 1662. As a 17th-century Baroque country church, it is also architecturally significant. Its elevated location and tall, highly visible steeple shape the village’s appearance. Together with the older houses, the church illustrates different chapters in Ossingen’s architectural history.

Winegrowing and walking routes

Wine is also part of local life. OertliWeine grows, among other varieties, Pinot Noir, MĂĽller Thurgau, Kalina, Regent, Zweigelt, Chardonnay, Cabernet Dorsa and Cabernet Jura. Its specialities are made and matured in its own wine cellar. You can buy wines and attend tastings in Ossingen. Call ahead to arrange your visit and confirm the current offerings.

Two routes of different lengths are available for planning a walk. The easy walk from Oerlingen to Ossingen is 5 kilometres long, follows the Via Natura and ends at Ossingen railway station. It includes a loop around the lakes; fire pits and sunbathing lawns offer places to take a break. Ossingen is also known as the home of Ossinger Zweigelt.

The longer alternative is the easy «Around Husemersee» wine trail, Route 4: the 12.5-kilometre loop starts and ends in Ossingen. It leads to Truttikon, through the vineyards and along Husemersee; the return to Ossingen is via the hamlet of Langemoos. The route is accessible by train and bus. Check the route before setting off and, if travelling by public transport, check the connections.

Husemersee: landscape and visitor information

Husemersee lies between TrĂĽllikon and Ossingen and is part of the Andelfingen lake district. The natural lakes are fed by the Wattbach. The small lake, located in a nature reserve, was added to the list of mires of national importance in 1994. Husemersee is about a half-hour walk from Ossingen railway station; this time is an approximate guide.

There is a sunbathing lawn and a bathing jetty on the southwest shore. The rest of the shoreline is protected and must not be entered. Bear this restriction in mind when planning your visit, and check seasonal conditions beforehand. The routes differ considerably: the 5-kilometre walk leads from Oerlingen to Ossingen, while Route 4 is a longer loop starting and ending in Ossingen.

The railway station as a landmark

Ossingen railway station also has a distinctive historical detail: the simple timber station building with a gabled roof was added to a goods shed dating from 1875 in 1880. A waiting shelter stands beside it. The station is also the endpoint of the walk from Oerlingen and a starting point for the footpath to Husemersee. Architectural history and practical directions for outings thus come together in one place.
