Discover Humlikon through two distinct aspects: hiking trails with vineyards and a shady woodland section towards the village, and equestrian sports with a show-jumping history dating back to the opening of the riding facility in 1993. The rural surroundings are also reflected in historical land-use figures and a walnut plantation between Humlikon and Henggart. When planning a stay, you can first decide whether you would rather focus on hiking trails and wine country or on equestrian sports.
A Village in Zurich’s Wine Country
Humlikon is a village in the municipality of Andelfingen in the north of the Canton of Zurich, in Zurich’s Wine Country between Schaffhausen and Winterthur. In 2018, 62.0 percent of the former municipal area was used for agriculture, while 28.0 percent was covered by forest. These figures show the land use at the time in the former municipal area and illustrate the area’s rural character in numbers. Humlikon’s historical coat of arms is associated with the family of the Barons of Humlikon. Its heraldic symbols represent arable farming and viticulture.
A walnut plantation was established between Humlikon and Henggart. A description from December 2025 dates its establishment to around four years earlier and lists an area of around 1.5 hectares and 125 trees of two varieties from France. The walnut trees contribute to biodiversity and climate protection. Thus, in addition to vineyards and woodland, a specific agricultural site is part of the landscape described here.
Hiking Trails Through Vineyards and Woodland
Two hikes head towards Humlikon and feature similar elements of the landscape. The “Kultur: Weinland” route follows a vineyard and then continues along a shady woodland trail. “Wanderbänkli Dinhard” also initially follows a vineyard before continuing along a shady woodland trail towards Humlikon. The sequence of vineyard and woodland gives both described sections a clear focus on the landscape. The “Kultur: Weinland” route page was revised in 2019; “Wanderbänkli Dinhard” was published in 2025.
On the “Wanderbänkli Dinhard” hike, you can shorten the route at various bus stops. This is a practical option if you would like to cut your hike short. Check transport connections and the locations of the stops before setting off. You should also check trail conditions before departure, especially for the route page revised in 2019.
Show-Jumping Lessons and Competitions
The FreimĂĽller Riding School in Humlikon offers show-jumping lessons for beginners and advanced riders aged 16 and over. Another aspect of equestrian sports is the competitions held at a family-run riding facility on the edge of the village, where they have taken place since the facility opened in 1993. At the CS Humlikon, each knockout show-jumping round pits two horse-and-rider combinations against each other on two identical courses. Individual events may vary from one edition to another.
The programme for the 4th LerchPartner.ch CS Humlikon in 2025 included a total of 27 competitions, with formats for beginners, seniors, riders with young horses, and ambitious amateurs and professionals. The LerchPartner.ch CS Humlikon, held from Thursday, 1 September, to Sunday, 4 September 2022, featured regional and national show-jumping competitions from B/R90 to N145, as well as classes for four-, five- and six-year-old young horses. The specific categories and formats therefore relate to particular editions. If you are considering attending, check the dates and programme for the edition in question.
Admission to the LerchPartner.ch CS Humlikon is free; check the admission details again for any future edition. At the 2026 CS Humlikon, the restaurant was open to all visitors.
