Lipperswil lies on the southern slope of the SeerĂĽcken, north of the A7 motorway, at an elevation of 491 metres above sea level. The village spans an elevation range of 461 to 597 metres. Golf, Conny-Land, the Evangelical Church and a circular trail offer a variety of highlights. There are leisure activities as well as architectural and local history; you can decide which of these will shape your stay according to your own interests.
Golf and experiences at Conny-Land
The Lipperswil golf course comprises three different 9-hole courses that can be combined in various ways. Golf enthusiasts can choose from several possible combinations rather than a single fixed format. The Golf Academy offers individual and group lessons, as well as taster, course-permit and technique courses. The driving range is directly next to Conny-Land, open year-round and accessible to everyone. Their close proximity brings two very different offerings into view: golf and practice facilities on one side, experiences involving animals and dinosaurs on the other.
Visitors who take part in the swimming-with-sea-lions experience learn about the animals’ way of life, anatomy, social behaviour and species conservation. Dino-Attack offers a different focus: the attraction takes visitors through a prehistoric world featuring lifelike dinosaurs. This puts an animal experience with educational content alongside a themed dinosaur world as two distinct highlights.
Church, local history and circular trail
The Evangelical Church of Lipperswil brings together several building phases. It was built in 1209 as a branch church of Wigoltingen and rebuilt in 1490; the most recent interior renovation took place in 1963. Its striking architectural features include a massive north tower, a low polygonal choir and a short nave with new wooden ceilings. The choir contains stained-glass windows by Leon Knuchel, dating from 1921, and Gottlieb Engeler, dating from 1963. The two dates of the stained-glass windows bring the different periods of creation within the church interior to life.
Lipperswil was first documented in 1252 under the name Luimprechtswilær. The village initially belonged to the barons of Bürglen; in 1284, it was sold to the canons’ monastery of St. Johann in Constance. The monastery held the lower jurisdiction until 1798. Another trace of history can be found at the Kellhof: on its western gable is the painted inscription “Kellhof, built in 1623, a fief of the canons’ monastery of St. Johann in Constance until 1798”.
The 10-kilometre Napoleonturm circular trail follows the former church path through the Wolftobel to Lipperswil Church. Its length and named destination give the hike a clear framework; it offers a different way of engaging with local history than looking at individual buildings. For a culinary highlight, the Lion d’Or restaurant focuses on regional and seasonal cuisine.
