Seeburgpark stretches for 2.5 kilometres from Kreuzlingen harbour around Schloss Seeburg along the shores of Lake Constance. This long stretch of waterfront tells the story of Kreuzlingen as a city between the lake, green spaces and history. Immediately adjacent to Kreuzlingen, Konstanz in Germany forms a cross-border urban area; the city is also the seat of the Kreuzlingen district. For your stay, lakeside paths, nature, art and urban history offer a range of different experiences.

Seeburgpark and the Animal Park

Seeburgpark is considered Kreuzlingen’s green park and offers opportunities for walking, picnicking and relaxing. The park is home to the Kreuzlingen Animal Park, which houses old domestic animal breeds that are threatened with extinction. You can feed and pet goats, sheep and donkeys there. If you plan to visit the animals, check the current visitor information, as arrangements may change.

A publicly accessible garden adds to the park: its beds are home to numerous medicinal and culinary herbs, arranged according to their properties. This lets you combine a walk by the lake with a botanical look at plants known for their everyday medicinal or culinary uses. Park facilities and access rules may change; check the latest information if you have a particular offering in mind.

From the Brook to the Lakeshore

Two paths follow streams along different routes. The Saubachweg follows the Saubach from above Bernrain through the district of Emmishofen to the Döbeli sports facilities. The Chogenbachweg begins at Lengwiler Weiher, runs via Kurzrickenbach to Lake Constance and ends at the jetty by the Fischerhaus. You can choose your route based on where it leads: one path goes through Emmishofen to the sports facilities, while the other runs from the pond to the lakeshore.

Two audio walks also have different focuses. “Seegeschichten” begins at the Seemuseum, follows the lakeshore and returns to its starting point after about 60 minutes. “Baumgeflüster” features 17 stops about trees up to 120 years old. Audioguide availability may change; check in advance if you plan to take an audio walk.

Nature at Lengwiler Weiher

The Lengwiler Weiher protected area combines recreation close to home with nature conservation. Its landscape includes ponds, forests crossed by streams and fens. Reed beds and wet meadows provide spawning and breeding sites for amphibian and bird species that have become rare. Nature watchers will find a different focus here than on the open shores of Lake Constance: wetlands and habitats take centre stage.

The Pro Natura hut serves as a base for activities and gives schools and interested groups the opportunity to learn about nature on site. Check group activities and access before visiting. The Chogenbachweg’s connection to Lengwiler Weiher also makes the pond a named starting point for one of the paths leading to Lake Constance.

Museums, Art and History

The Rosenegg Museum is housed in a Rococo palace commissioned by the Bächler wine-trading family around 1785. The former wine cellar houses the exhibition “Hüben und Drüben” about the Swiss-German border. If this exhibition is a key reason for your visit, check the latest exhibition information.

At the Seemuseum, explore the history and present-day world of shipping and fishing on Lake Constance. Digital treasure hunts are designed as journeys of discovery on and beneath the water; check the current offering if you plan to take one. Kreuzlingen’s art trails let you create your own city walks to places and works of art. QR codes provide information about the works and their locations. The Thurgau SeeKunstweg offers a regional contrast: it runs from Arbon via Romanshorn and Kreuzlingen to Stein am Rhein and includes six works of art in Kreuzlingen.

Other chapters of the city’s history are also tangible. The Augustinian monastery “crucelin” was founded in 1125 by Bishop Ulrich I of Constance, destroyed in 1633 in the aftermath of the Swedish siege of Constance, and rebuilt at its present location in 1650. Schloss Seeburg was built in 1598, restored after a fire in 1633 and subsequently served as a summer residence for the abbots of Kreuzlingen. Kunstraum Kreuzlingen is devoted to contemporary art and the discourse around it; its programme includes exhibitions, performances, discursive and social events, as well as educational activities. There are no regular opening hours due to construction work. Check access arrangements for the event you plan to attend.

Boat Trips and Egelsee Baths

Shipping companies operate from Kreuzlingen’s piers on the Untersee as far as Stein am Rhein and offer round trips on Lake Constance. Pedal boats and motorboats are also available to rent. As services and rentals may vary by season, it is a good idea to check the latest timetables and rental information for your travel dates.

Egelsee Baths has a family pool and an adventure pool, an area for small children, two diving platforms and a 40-metre water slide. The relaxation area includes a steam room and sauna, adventure showers, a Kneipp alcove and a hot stone. Facilities may change during renovations; check the latest information if a particular offering is important to your plans.
