Damyang-gun offers two distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: Juknokwon, with eight themed walking trails, and the Gwanbangjerim Forest on the banks of the Damyangcheon. Juknokwon offers traditional Hanok accommodation. The Gwanbangjerim Forest is designated a natural monument. This makes walking trails, the forest, and a specific type of accommodation different starting points to consider for your stay.

Juknokwon: Walking Trails and Hanok Accommodation

Juknokwon has eight themed walking trails. If you enjoy getting around on foot, you can make these trails the focus of your visit and use their thematic structure to help choose what to see. Juknokwon also has a foot bath experience area, as well as the Jukhyang Experience Village, the Hanok Experience Site, and Sibi Park. The trails are the main focus for walking, while the foot bath area and the three named places are additional facilities. When planning, you can decide whether you want walking itself to define your visit or whether you would also like to include the other facilities. This keeps the different parts of what is offered clear.

Juknokwon offers traditional Hanok accommodation. If this type of accommodation is important to you, you can include it as a separate option in your plans and check availability for your travel dates. This means considering two distinct questions: what kind of visit interests you and what type of accommodation you are looking for.

Gwanbangjerim: Forest and Natural Monument

The Gwanbangjerim Forest was established on the banks of the Damyangcheon and is designated a natural monument. Its large trees include hackberries, zelkovas, Japanese nettle trees, and cherry trees; they are approximately 200 to 300 years old. The named species and approximate age give the forest a different character from the themed walking trails in Juknokwon: here, the natural monument designation and the old trees define the visit. The banks of the Damyangcheon place the forest in its setting, while the species and approximate age draw attention to its trees.

The Korea Forest Service selected the Gwanbangjerim Forest as “Korea’s Most Beautiful Forest.” This recognition adds a distinct point of reference to its designation as a natural monument. Both details relate to the forest but emphasize different things: its designation as a natural monument and its selection by the Korea Forest Service. For travelers interested in forest landscapes, these are part of what makes Gwanbangjerim distinctive.

Visitors can stop for photos at the sculpture park in the Gwanbangjerim Forest. Alongside its trees, the forest therefore offers a specific spot for photos. Juknokwon and Gwanbangjerim are both located in Damyang-eup, but they offer different kinds of visits: Juknokwon features themed walking trails and other facilities, while Gwanbangjerim is known for its natural monument status, old trees, and sculpture park. You can use this distinction to plan around your interests.
