Hanam-Si offers a range of travel experiences: riverside scenery along the Han River, an urban forest, hiking trails on Geomdansan, a fortress dating from the Three Kingdoms period of Korea, and a market with regular market days. If you are planning a hotel stay in Hanam-Si, these themes can help you choose the focus of your trip.

Riverside scenery and urban forest

Near Misa Rowing Park, the Han River Ecological Park covers a roughly 991,000 m² stretch of riverbank. Its largely natural ecosystem shapes this area along the Han River. In Misa-dong, another riverside trail is 5.3 km long, with 850 zelkovas along the route. The Han River Ecological Park is known for its expansive, largely natural riverside landscape; the 5.3 km riverside trail in Misa-dong is lined with 850 zelkovas.

Namu Orphanage is an urban forest park of about 89,000 m² with 46 tree species, including pines, sycamores, ginkgoes and zelkovas. The site is also used for environmental education and teaches the importance of nature conservation. Alongside the riverside and hiking trails, the nature offerings therefore include an urban forest park with a dedicated educational focus.

Hiking trails on Geomdansan

Geomdansan is 657 m high and is considered an important mountain in Hanam-si. Near its summit is a spacious open area with panoramic views. Six hiking trails lead to the summit. Their routes vary in length, duration and waypoints:

  • Starting at Sangok Elementary School, a 3.1 km trail leads to the summit in about 1 hour and 50 minutes, passing the Unification Memorial Stone Tower and Gomteo Spring.
  • The Hyunchungtap Trail is 4.2 km long and takes about 2 hours. It passes through Changwoo-dong and by the Animation High School, Hyunchungtap and Gopdol Spring.
  • The Yugiljun Tomb Trail is 3.5 km long and takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes. Its waypoints include the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial, Yugiljun’s tomb and a scenic rock outcrop.
  • The trail from Araet Baealmi is 2.9 km long and takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. It leads from Araet Baealmi to the summit via an observation post.
  • At 4.7 km, the Upper Baealmi Trail is the longest of the routes listed; it takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes. Along the way are an observation post, a transmission tower and a trail junction.
  • The eco-friendly circular trail is 2.7 km long and takes about 1 hour. It passes Yugiljun’s tomb, the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial and Hyunchungtap, goes through a pine forest, and runs by Jeongsimsa and the former Camp Colbern site.

In terms of duration, the 2.7 km circular trail, at about one hour, and the 4.7 km Upper Baealmi Trail, at about 2 hours and 10 minutes, mark the two ends of the range. The other trails fall between them, but also differ in their respective stops.

Fortress and market days

Iseongsanseong Fortress is located in Chun-gung-dong and dates from the Three Kingdoms period of Korea. Its walls are about 5 m high, and its perimeter is approximately 2 km. An AR experience area connects the Hanam History Museum and the fortress. The museum app lets visitors link museum objects with the fortress remains; check whether the app is available before your visit.

The five-day market at Deokpung Market falls on the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 29th of each month. Market stalls sell fruit, vegetables, seafood, other food products, household goods and prepared food. Check the current market calendar before your trip if you want to plan your visit for a market day.
