Bucheon brings together Korean comics history, traditional archery collections, science exhibitions and a park with a lake and greenhouse. Its attractions span culture, nature and seasonal events. If you are looking for a destination that caters to different interests, you can decide what kind of stay you want based on the themes that appeal to you most. The attractions also differ in how they present their themes: through collections and reading opportunities, a walking path or a seasonal program.
Manhwa, Bows and Poetry
The Korea Manhwa Museum focuses on the history and present of Korean comics, with 110 years of manhwa as its subject. In its interactive and exhibition areas, visitors encounter works and portraits of artists; a digital 4D/3D cinema and a reading room round out the offerings. The history of comics is presented alongside current forms of expression and the opportunity to read comics in the reading room. If you are interested in visual storytelling, the museum offers several ways to explore the works, artists and history.
The Bucheon Bow Museum offers a different cultural focus: it preserves traditional Korean bows and the tradition of making them, as well as Korean archery. Its collection includes 240 artifacts from Kim Jang-hwan, a master recognized by the state, and around 500 materials relating to bows, arrows, archery equipment and records. Its subject matter spans from antiquity to the present. In contrast to the Manhwa Museum, the focus here is on craftsmanship, equipment and the history of archery—an alternative cultural perspective to consider when making your choice.
Bucheon Park also combines its own name with a specific cultural theme: it is called “Poetry Monument Park” and features monuments inscribed with poems. While manhwa and bows are explored through collections and history, here you encounter poetry on monuments throughout the park.
Walking and Plants at Sangdong Lake Park
Sangdong Lake Park is set around an artificial lake, with a 2.5-kilometer walking path leading around it. This makes a clearly defined walk another focus for a visit alongside the museums. The Supia greenhouse is also located in the park. It displays 430 plant species and 2,800 plants; the plant displays may change with future exhibitions. The park thus combines a lakeside walking path with a greenhouse focused on plant diversity. When weighing up your interests, you can choose between walking along the lake and a botanical focus.
Science and Water
The Bucheon Astronomical Science Center includes an exhibition room, an education room, a sliding-roof dome and an outdoor area for nighttime observations. Its facilities thus include both exhibition and learning spaces and a dedicated place for observing the night sky. For anyone interested in astronomy, this focus differs clearly from the cultural and historical collections at the Manhwa and Bow Museums.
The Bucheon Water Museum explores a different scientific subject: videos and exhibits bring to life the formation and cycle of water, the history of its use and the production of tap water. It covers both natural processes and the use and treatment of water. Together with the Astronomical Science Center, the museum offers two different approaches to learning: water and its use here, and astronomy—with exhibition, education and observation areas—there.
Bucheon Throughout the Year
Bucheon Festa is the city’s integrated festival and events program, with seasonal themes: spring flowers and family, summer adventures, autumn harmony and winter romance. The seasonal framework gives the program different thematic accents; individual events and themes may change. Bucheon Festa–Spring takes place every year from March to May. The various programs are open to all citizens, and the specific offerings vary from year to year. If you are planning when to travel, this period is a guide to the spring program; choosing specific events depends on that year’s edition.
