Videm pri Ptuju is a compact settlement on the southern edge of the Dravsko polje, on both banks of the Dravinja. Here, the Haloze hills come particularly close to the branches of the Drava. Anyone planning a stay will find a place whose defining themes range from the river landscape to ecclesiastical history and regional customs.

Church, Park and Local History

The parish church of Sv. Vida gave Videm pri Ptuju its present name. It was built as early as the Romanesque period, first mentioned in 1320, and completed in its present form in 1445. For those interested in architectural and local history, the church thus combines an early origin with a precisely dated present-day form.

The Frančiškov Park is located directly beside the Minorite monastery of Sv. Vida. It contains three chapels; the park also has benches for resting and a fire pit. The site is used for camping, picnics and recreational activities. Spiritual retreats are among the activities of the Minorite monastery. The park and monastery thus represent different aspects of spiritual life in Videm, without implying that a visit to the monastery involves taking part in a retreat.

Customs, Singing and Events

The Klopotec Dravci-SoviÄŤe Cultural and Tourism Association maintains several local traditions. As an Easter custom, it makes Presmece in various sizes, which are taken to the parish church of Sv. Vida for blessing. The association also preserves the distinctive archaic folk singing of the Haloze. After the grape harvest, it holds a must blessing and a Martinovanje celebration, which also includes a humorous must baptism.

Carnival is also part of local life: “Fašenk na Vidmu” is an ethnographic procession through the centre of Videm pri Ptuju. Another event held in the Frančiškov Park was the open-air Mass “Frančiškov blagoslov – Hvalnica stvarstva”. It took place there on 13 October 2024 and 12 October 2025. These two dates refer to specific past editions, not to a future events calendar.

Hiking Trails and a Boat Trip

The Videmska planinska pot passes through Videm pri Ptuju and is classified as an easy mountain hiking trail. Checkpoint KT-2 is at the Pal inn, “Pri treh lipah”, at number 48; the logbook and stamp are kept there. Another trail, Pot med vinogradi, starts in Videm. Its first checkpoint is in front of the municipal building. Check current trail conditions and guidance for the relevant route before setting out.

The Dravaspust descent adds an activity lasting several hours. The full descent takes four to six hours and passes through the protected Ĺ turmovci Landscape Park. The planned starting point is Videm pri Ptuju and the finish is in ZavrÄŤ. The Dravinja and Drava rivers make boating possible there. The descent must be arranged in advance and depends on suitable water conditions; confirm these details before including it in your stay.

Near Videm, a three-kilometre nature trail also runs through Ĺ turmovci Landscape Park. More than 230 bird species can be observed in the park. The outdoor activities are therefore clearly distinct: the nature trail is an educational route in the surrounding area, while Dravaspust is a longer descent that must be arranged in advance.

Wine and Tastings

A tourism listing from 2015 placed the Vidova klet in the centre of Videm, behind the church of Sv. Vida. For the selection at that time, it listed more than 25 different quality and premium wines from 15 Haloze winemakers, as well as guided wine tastings. If you plan to stop there, confirm current access, tasting arrangements and wine selection in advance.
