Grohar’s House houses a memorial collection dedicated to Grohar and a gallery. The Sorica Theme Path explores the village’s history and legends, while marked mountain trails lead to four named peaks. Sorica therefore offers a range of themes: cultural heritage, village history and trails in the surrounding mountain landscape.

Culture and History in Sorica

Information boards along the Sorica Theme Path offer insights into the village’s history and legends. Its cultural heritage also includes an old dialect, local field names, the cultural landscape and architecture shaped by historical settlement traditions. These aspects offer additional ways to explore local history alongside a visit to the memorial collection and gallery at Grohar’s House.

The church in Sorica also brings together historical and artistic connections. It was first mentioned in the land register in 1501; its present-day Baroque appearance dates from the 18th century. The church’s most important work of art is considered to be a ceiling fresco depicting the Last Supper by Janez Šubic of Poljane.

Sorica has a tourism tradition dating back more than a hundred years. Music workshops offer another opportunity to engage with music: each participant receives an instrument, and at the end everyone plays together in a percussion orchestra. The activity may be available seasonally.

Hello fall: Culture and Tradition

For more than twenty years, Hello fall has been Sorica’s main cultural and ethnological event. Traditionally, the festival takes place in Sorica over two days on the second weekend in September. As the dates may vary from year to year, it is advisable to check the programme for the relevant year before making plans.

Hello fall features, among other things, fruit drying and pressing, wool production and sheep shearing, hunting customs, and traditional dishes. The programme also includes local music, folk songs and historical exhibitions. The specific activities on offer may vary. The festival thus offers insights into a range of cultural and ethnological topics rather than focusing on a single demonstration.

Walks and Mountain Trails

Marked mountain trails lead from Sorica to the peaks of Porezen, Črna Prst, Lajnar and Ratitovec. If you are planning a mountain hike, check the conditions before setting out. These destinations offer a specific selection of peaks; no information on walking times or difficulty levels is available here.

A walk through Spodnja Sorica begins in front of Grohar’s House. The walk from the road to the waterfall is estimated to take about 15 minutes. The actual duration may vary depending on trail conditions and walking speed.

A path leads through tall trees to a bench with a sweeping view over the lower part of the village and the surrounding hills. A marked trail also runs along the edge of the village. After heavy rain and in winter, check local trail conditions.

Ski Resort Nearby

The Soriška Planina ski resort is located near Sorica. It has 10 kilometres of ski runs, five ski lifts, a ski school and ski rental. These details describe the facilities at the nearby ski resort, not facilities at accommodation in Spodnja Sorica. As operations and facilities may be seasonal, check before your trip.
