If you are planning a trip to Srednja Vas, you can choose between two distinct focuses: Dobrča as a hiking destination, and the area’s architectural and linguistic heritage. The details range from different starting points for a mountain hike to historic farmsteads and a printed map of local field names.

Hiking to Dobrča

The 1,634-metre-high, panoramic mountain Dobrča lies between Tržič and Begunje na Gorenjskem. A hike up Dobrča can start from Srednja Vas. Most marked trails to the summit begin in the foothill villages of Brezje pri Tržiču, Hudi Graben or Srednja Vas. The summit is the same, while the starting points differ. For planning, it is therefore helpful to consider the destination and starting point separately: Srednja Vas is one option, alongside Brezje pri Tržiču and Hudi Graben.

Mountain hut and regional cuisine

Koča na Dobrči is located on Dobrča at 1,478 metres, slightly below the 1,634-metre-high mountain. Its dining room has 40 seats, and the hut has 22 beds in six rooms for overnight stays. If you are considering staying overnight, check current availability in advance. The menu includes mountain-hut dishes such as stews, buckwheat žganci, sauerkraut, sausages and blood sausages, roasted pork ribs, cheese štruklji and apple strudel; the specific selection may vary. Buttermilk is also served during the grazing season. The dining room and rooms offer two different points of reference when planning a meal stop or a possible overnight stay.

Historic farmsteads

Domačija Srednja vas 1 is a rural farmstead dating from the 19th century. It includes a two-storey house, an outbuilding with living quarters above, and a central well with a stone surround and water pump. At Domačija Srednja vas 2, the outbuilding stands on the western edge of the settlement, north of the road from Begunje to Tržič. It comprises a stone-built stable with a semicircular tuff-stone portal dating from 1845. Above it is a wooden upper storey with an open gallery, hayloft and threshing floor. The descriptions emphasize different features: at the first farmstead, the house and outbuildings are presented together with the well; at the second, the focus is on the outbuilding’s layout.

Local field names and firefighting equipment

In a survey completed in 2025, 22 local residents collected a total of 423 field names. The names are shown in their dialect forms on a printed map. The map is available free of charge from municipal offices, the libraries in Radovljica and Begunje, and the DUB Bar in Begunje; local availability may depend on distribution arrangements. Alongside the farmsteads, it draws attention to the linguistic side of the area.

A 2009 report describes a fire pump dating from 1885 that was discovered under hay on a farm in Srednja Vas near Begunje and restored. It received a certificate for historic firefighting equipment. Two horses pulled the 3.30-metre-long cart, while two operators pumped the water.
