Topoľníky can be explored in different ways: cycling routes lead to named destinations, the Tőkés branch of the Malý Dunaj shapes the river landscape, and historic buildings and monuments add their own distinctive touches. It is precisely the mix of activity, nature and history that gives the place its different facets. Those who put cycling at the heart of their visit will find specific destinations; those interested in the landscape or culture can explore the river area and historical landmarks as separate highlights.

Cycling routes and named destinations

A cycling route connects Topoľníky with Dunajská Streda, Ohrady and Trhová Hradská. A 940-metre-long cycling route begins near Horné Topoľníky and leads to Mostová Street. The three place names provide a guide to connections beyond Topoľníky; the stated length and the two named points describe a specific route. This lets you consider cycling connections either by their destinations or by a precisely specified route.

The Tőkés branch and the Malý Dunaj

The Tőkés branch of the Malý Dunaj flows through the municipality of Topoľníky and is a protected, picturesque area covering 306 hectares. The confluence of the Tőkés branch and the Malý Dunaj offers an impressive panoramic view. The river branch, protected landscape and viewpoint each have their own character: one describes the nature of a larger area, while the other offers a specific view of the confluence.

Fishing is possible at the Tőkés branch; swimming and sunbathing are listed as visitor activities there. Nature walks are another way to experience the local diversity of nature. The landscape and outdoor activities therefore take centre stage in different forms, from walks to activities by the water.

Tourist boat trips are available on the Malý Dunaj. Access to these trips may depend on local arrangements. Check in advance whether a trip is being offered at the time of your visit. This keeps the river as a distinct focus of your trip planning, without conflating it with activities at the Tőkés branch.

Church and historic memorials

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Dolné Topoľníky was founded in 1754. The Roman Catholic building is Gothic and was remodelled in the late Neoclassical style. Frescoes depicting Christ’s miracles are displayed in front of the choir. The architecture and artwork give the church different historical associations: you can explore both its architectural history and the religious subject matter of the frescoes.

Other landmarks have their own distinctive character. The monument to the right of the sword in Topoľníky dates from 1796 and symbolises the power of the Pálffy family. A statue of Saint John stands in front of house No. 180. Written sources from the time of its restoration on 24 May 1759 name him as the patron saint of Horné Topoľníky. The Sándor Petőfi monument was erected in 1995. Together, these memorials reflect different historical associations: the symbolism of the right of the sword, the designation of Horné Topoľníky’s patron saint, and the commemoration of Petőfi.
