Koplotovce brings together thermal waters and architectural history in a landscape along the Váh. You can explore these themes according to your interests: alongside the thermal spring, there is church and fortress architecture, wildlife watching and cycling routes. When choosing a place to stay, you can decide whether to focus mainly on cultural heritage, the landscape or a mix of both.

Koplotovce between the Váh and Považský Inovec

The village lies on the left-bank river terraces of the Váh, which border the southern slopes of Považský Inovec. Thermophilous oak forests grow in the northern part of Koplotovce. The protected flora also offers a closer look at the landscape: the cadastral area is home to protected orchids, summer pheasant’s-eye (Adonis aestivalis) and the priority habitat of European interest *6210/Tr1.1. Exact locations and plant numbers may change.

Thermal waters and planning your visit

Koplotovce has a sulphur- and gypsum-rich thermal spring. Sedavá fontána uses local thermal water at a temperature of 25 °C; temperatures and operating arrangements may vary. The site includes a buffet serving refreshments, but availability may change. Before visiting, check seasonal access and the current offering. Bathing at Sedavá fontána began on 1 June 2019; this date is no substitute for checking current access.

Church, fortress and local history

Kaštieľ Kaplath is an original Renaissance fortress. Its surviving features include fortifications on the south side, a stone portal and two distinctive round bastions. The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1734. Its Rococo high altar dates from the late 18th century and contains a painting of the Visitation of Mary by F. Werner. Together, the two buildings bring different architectural periods and styles into view.

Services are held at the filial Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings; check the current times before your visit. Koplotovce was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zobor Charter. Archaeological finds also add to the picture of local history: a Neolithic stone-core fragment was recovered at the Za gedru site in 1989. A Roman coin found during gardening in 1999 was minted between 378 and 383.

As additional regional context, the local history museum in Hlohovec is nearby. It displays a set of hunting furniture from the Koplotov estate and presents archaeological finds from Hlohovec and the surrounding area, from the Stone Age through the Bronze and Iron Ages to Roman and Slavic settlement periods. As exhibitions may change, it is worth checking the current offering before visiting.

Wildlife watching and cycling routes

In 2023 and 2024, bee-eater nesting was documented near Koplotovce on a typical sandy escarpment. After the birds had left, twenty occupied nest burrows were counted during the 2024 season. The species’ presence varies by season; these figures relate to this observation period and do not indicate what you might see at another time of year.

It is also worth checking the scope of the cycling routes. The Leopoldov–Červeník–Madunice–Koplotovce–Drahovce cycling route project includes a 0.720 km section within the cadastral area of Koplotovce. The project connects Madunice and Koplotovce with a bridge over the Váh between the two cadastral areas; implementation continued until February 2023. Separately, in 2010 a total of 5.7 km of cycling path along the Váh was extended in the direction of Koplotovce. The 0.720 km figure refers to the section within the cadastral area, while 5.7 km is the total length of the other route described.

The Štrkovisko Koplotovce fishing waters

The Štrkovisko Koplotovce fishing waters near the village comprise four gravel pits with a total water surface area of 2.9 ha. Along with the river landscape, oak forests and seasonal wildlife observations, they add another way to explore the area alongside its cultural and thermal attractions. If you are looking for accommodation in Koplotovce, these different interests may play a part in choosing your destination.
