The Trnava Hills stretch from Trnava to the Nitra District and lie at an elevation of about 290 m above sea level; Kľačany is located in this landscape. The Andač stream rises in a small grove between Hlohovec and Kľačany, flows through the village and joins the Radošinka. For planning your trip, Kľačany offers two themes: its stream and woodland landscape, and local history, reflected in buildings, a rondel and traditions passed down over time.

Stream landscape and protected species

Oak and mixed forests can be found in Kľačany and its surroundings. The Mladý háj woodland also extends into the cadastral area of Kľačany and contains oak-hornbeam forests. The lesser snowdrop is one of the rare protected plants in Kľačany. The European ground squirrel has also been confirmed in Mladý háj; at present, the woodland is considered the only known site for this species in the district. Alongside the stream and forest types, individual protected species are also a focus here. Those particularly interested in landscapes when choosing a destination will find a range of nature-related themes here, from the course of the Andač to woodland areas and species habitats.

Church, cross and archaeological traces

The Church of St Martin is a single-nave place of worship. Its presbytery has a polygonal, or many-sided, end; a sacristy is attached, and the tower is integrated into the building. A stone cross dating from 1851 stands in front of the church. The name Kľačany was first recorded in 1256 in the form Kelechten. A monument to fallen soldiers stands in the local cemetery.

Another historical trace lies in the Štvrte field: the rondel consists of two circular ditches and four entrances. The colour of the vegetation differs above its foundations, making the structure visible. The ditches and entrances give a concrete impression of its layout; the difference in vegetation colour is another feature of the rondel. Together with the church, cross and monument, these sites allow you to shape your stay around different cultural and historical interests without treating them as a single attraction.

Harvest thanksgiving and local history

A municipal entry from 2015 describes the harvest thanksgiving tradition as having been celebrated annually since 2002. At the 2015 celebration, a light agape meal with baked cakes and wine followed the Mass. This account describes both the sequence and the specific culinary tradition: cakes and wine followed the Mass. The harvest thanksgiving adds a local custom to the architectural and archaeological traces; the most recent celebration described in detail dates from 2015.

Plan your arrival and accommodation

An older municipal report mentions bus and rail services for Kľačany. Check current connections before travelling if you are relying on them for your plans. When looking for a holiday apartment, compare its exact location with the places you intend to visit, and consider whether bus or rail travel will play a role in getting there. Your interests in nature and culture can shape the focus of your stay; choose accommodation and check current transport connections to suit your own plans.
