In Dvorníky, attractions range from a single-nave church dating from the late 18th century to an educational trail through the vineyards. Winegrowing connects local history with autumn festival traditions, while nature and river activities draw attention to the Váh. This makes it possible to plan a trip around different interests: historic buildings, regional traditions, or routes on foot and by bike.

Buildings and History

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a single-nave Baroque-classical church. It was built in 1788 on the site of an earlier church, mentioned as far back as 1559. The two dates mark different building phases: the present church is more recent than the site’s ecclesiastical history.

A barn dating from 1761 is also one of the notable historic buildings. It includes a separate cellar built into the hillside. Since 21 May 2021, the barn has been a national cultural monument. The cellar’s architectural detail makes it a different kind of testament from the church: here, the focus is on an agricultural building with a distinctive design.

Hrádok, a motte dating from the 13th to 14th century and a national cultural monument, is located in Posádka. The term “motte” refers to a type of medieval castle. Other historic features include a 19th-century roadside statue of Saint Wendelin and a bell tower in Posádka dating from the 1870s. Together, these examples show different forms of architectural and sculptural heritage, and do not all date from the same period.

Winegrowing and Local Traditions

Winegrowing is considered a centuries-old tradition in Dvorníky. The municipal coat of arms also reflects this theme, depicting a hoe, a bunch of grapes and a pruning knife. Traditional folk crafts include dolls and nativity scenes made from corn husks, as well as Easter eggs decorated with applied straw ornaments. The craft tradition has deep historical roots and has been preserved in part.

A wine tasting with a feast is held in Dvorníky every autumn. Burčiak (young wine), goose meat and mould-ripened cheese are served at the autumn festival. If you want to plan your visit for this time, check the specific event dates before travelling. The inherited winegrowing tradition and autumn festival give the village a distinctive culinary connection, but do not mean that events are held throughout the year.

Nature and Trails

The Dubník National Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral area of Dvorníky. It covers 165.19 hectares and is protected at level four. The protected area includes a rare, isolated remnant of a natural forest community, an ornithological site for the Eurasian scops owl (Otus scops), and protected plant species. For nature enthusiasts, the focus here differs from that of the historic buildings: it is the significance of a rare forest habitat and its protected species.

The green recreational cycle route 5212 Hlohovec–Sereď runs through Dvorníky. It is 20.8 kilometres long, paved and rated easy. Its endpoints and stated length help you choose a cycling route; before setting off, check the latest route information, as details can change.

A longer option on foot is the educational trail through the vineyards of Hlohovec. This 22.3-kilometre hiking trail is self-guided, open year-round and walkable in both directions; it passes through Dvorníky and Posádka. Seven stops focus on winegrowing and history. By direct comparison, the educational trail is 1.5 kilometres longer than cycle route 5212, but the two routes are different in nature: one is a hiking trail with themed stops, while the other is a paved recreational cycle route rated easy.

The surroundings of the Váh also offer further opportunities for activities. Camping in the countryside is one option in the natural area with surviving floodplain forests in the Dvorníky area; trips down the Váh by river are another leisure activity. Hiking and cycling are possible in some parts of the area around the river and the adjacent floodplain forest remnants. This qualification matters: these activities are not available throughout every part of the area.
