Tomášikovo offers a range of options for a stay: a historic water mill, a castle, religious heritage and a river landscape with protected habitats. You can focus on architectural history, a pilgrimage, cycling or a trip along the Little Danube. When choosing a holiday apartment in Tomášikovo, this question can help you plan your trip around your interests.

Water Mill and Technical History

The water mill in Tomášikovo was built in 1893 by János Maticza. Since 1982, it has been open to the public as a unique technical monument of traditional milling and has been managed by the Museum of Local History in Galanta. It has been preserved in its original state, and its complete milling equipment is still operational. The building thus brings together the history of the mill and its preserved technology. For a visit focused on culture, the water mill is a distinctive starting point, without requiring a full day’s programme.

Castle, Church and Lourdes Grotto

Tomášikovo Castle and its outbuildings form a Baroque-Classical complex. It was probably built in the 1760s to plans by architects J. Thalherr and J. Fellner. The castle stands on older foundations dating from the 17th century: the foundations and the complex, which was presumably built later, therefore belong to different construction phases. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Tomášikovo was built in 1801, adding a religious building to the picture of the village’s architectural history.

The Lourdes Grotto also holds a special place in Tomášikovo’s religious heritage. According to its inscription, it was built in 1901; according to old sources, the stones were brought directly from Lourdes. By decree dated 5 September 2015, the grotto was recognised as a Marian pilgrimage site of the Archdiocese of Trnava. Pilgrims currently walk from Vozokany to Tomášikovo for the pilgrimage. It ends with a solemn Holy Mass at the grotto in the cemetery. The main pilgrimage takes place on the Saturday closest to 8 September. Natural Monument and Park

West of Tomášikovo, on the left bank of the Little Danube, lies Tomášikovský presyp. The 0.988-hectare area was placed under protection in 1973. This protection is intended to preserve the typical communities of sand-loving and drought-tolerant plant and animal species found along the edges of the area. The purpose of the protection gives this natural monument a different significance from a park: the focus here is on its distinctive habitats.

The park in Tomášikovo is a national cultural monument. A network of paths runs through the grounds, and small bridges allow visitors to cross the waterways. Residents and visitors to the municipality use the park for recreation. Its paths and bridges offer a different way to experience the surroundings than the natural monument: here, the focus is on the paths and crossings rather than the protected habitats.

Cycling and the Little Danube

The yellow-marked route 8247, “Starý Háj – Tomášikovo,” is an easy 3.9-kilometre MTB leisure route. It connects the “Po stopách vodných mlynov” loop with the wooden mill in Tomášikovo and the municipality. From the mill, it continues to the village centre, where it ends. Its length, markings and difficulty rating can help you consider this cycling section as a separate option alongside visits to the mill, park and natural monument. Maintenance and surface conditions can affect the route; it is therefore advisable to check the current conditions before setting out.

You can also include the mill in an activity on the water. On a trip along the Little Danube, paddlers can stop or camp at the wooden water mill. Local regulations may apply to camping. A trip along the Little Danube with a stop at the mill is also suitable for beginners and families. So, alongside its architectural and natural attractions, Tomášikovo offers a way to combine a river trip with a stop at the mill.
