Partizánske is best explored through its Baťa-shaped urban history: SNP Square was laid out in the late 1930s according to the development plan for Baťovany. The city also offers cultural venues, a water castle in the Šimonovany district, and leisure activities ranging from an observatory to a cycling route. You can tailor your stay to your interests—with a focus on architecture and history, or with individual activities for culture and exercise.

Baťa Architecture in the Cityscape

The Baťa architecture in Partizánske was created by the Baťa company in line with its “Ideal Industrial City” philosophy. Batist urban planning is still visible in the factory buildings, a community centre, houses and a church. These building types show different aspects of urban planning: production, community life, housing and religious architecture. Together, they provide a tangible architectural framework for the city’s history.

The Baťa Point, located in a Baťa workers’ house on Červená Street, is a place to find out more. Visitors can view the rooms of the workers’ house there. Baťa Point also organises city tours. If you plan to take a tour, check the current dates and reservation requirements in advance; both may change. This lets you include Baťa Point as a separate stop without assuming a particular focus for the tours.

The Castle and Churches of Šimonovany

The Vodný hrad water castle is in Šimonovany, a district of Partizánske. In Slovakia, it is one of the oldest surviving Gothic-Renaissance noble residences in the category of fortified manor houses. A landscaped park adjoins the castle. The water castle was opened to the public from May 2016; current visiting opportunities may vary. If visiting the castle is important to your plans, check what is currently possible beforehand.

Also in Šimonovany is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the oldest Roman Catholic church in the territory of Partizánske. The church and its churchyard are national cultural monuments. The castle and church thus offer different ways to explore the district’s history: a water castle with an adjoining park and a religious monument with a protected churchyard.

Museum, Observatory and 3D Cinema

The Partizánske City Museum collects, preserves, scientifically studies and makes accessible objects relating to the history of Partizánske and the surrounding region. Its programme includes exhibitions, discussions, lectures and publications. If you want to plan your visit around a particular discussion or lecture, check the current programme.

The Partizánske Observatory offers public observations of the night and daytime skies. It has also had a mobile digital planetarium since 2012. A lecture hall equipped with audiovisual technology is used for seminars and educational programmes for the general public. This brings observation and learning together as different ways to explore astronomy. For specific observation dates or programmes, it is advisable to check the latest information.

The Panoramic 3D Cinema Partizánske screens Slovak premieres as well as international and domestic films in 3D. The current programme gives you a basis for fitting a cinema visit around your other interests.

Leisure in the Water, on the Ice and by Bike

Dúha outdoor swimming pool has a large swimming pool, a children’s paddling pool, a sitting and relaxation pool, and a pool with attractions. There is also a water slide, a children’s slide, a beach volleyball court, games tables and a barefoot path.

The Zimný štadión Partizánske ice sports complex can be used by individuals and organised groups by prior arrangement; booking conditions may change. For a bike ride, the Cyklotrasa mesta Partizánske – I. etapa route describes a specific course: it starts in the built-up area of Partizánske and follows the paved Nitra flood-protection embankment to Malé Bielice. Swimming, ice sports and cycling are clearly distinct ways to add some activity to your stay. Which one suits you depends on the available options and your plans.
