Brunovce brings together architectural and garden history with a recreational cycling route along the Váh. The manor house, park and crossing over the river represent different local themes; the cycling route directly connects Brunovce with several municipalities and Nové Mesto nad Váhom. For trip planning, it is worth keeping these highlights separate: the historical details tell of different eras, while the route’s length, course and suitability offer concrete points of reference for your interests. The bridge also requires a separate check, as it is currently closed.

Manor House and Local History

A burial site of the Únětice culture dating to the Early Bronze Age was located in the area of today’s municipality of Brunovce. A much later phase of construction shapes the local history: the Bercsényi family had the manor house built in the second half of the 17th century. Originally, it had a closed four-wing layout. Its outer fortifications included a moat fed by the Váh. The river thus features in different contexts: in the architectural history of the manor house, along the cycling route and at the bridge.

The former castle chapel also reflects the architecture of that period. Rich Mannerist stucco decoration from the second half of the 17th century has been preserved on its vaults. Its date therefore falls in the same era in which the manor house was built. However, the history of the area of today’s municipality goes back even further: the Bronze Age burial site and the manor house belong to distinctly different chapters in the local history.

Park Design and Traditional Crafts

An English-style park was laid out at the manor house in the 19th century. The park to the south of the building was largely transformed from formal gardens into a natural, landscape-style park; a simplified formal parterre remained alongside the building. Two design principles therefore sit side by side: the parterre’s formal layout and the landscape design of the rest of the park.

A Rococo statue of St John of Nepomuk, dating from the second third of the 18th century, stands at the park entrance. It was created before the English-style park was laid out in the 19th century. The history of the park therefore includes both an older work of art and a garden designed later. Earlier local craft traditions also included lace-making and embroidery by women in Brunovce. These activities add another aspect of former life in the village to its architectural and garden history.

Cycling Route and Váh Crossing

The 13.4-kilometre cycling route is intended for recreation and is suitable for all age groups, including children. It runs along the crest of the Váh flood embankment. It directly connects the cadastral areas of Horná Streda, Brunovce, Potvorice and Považany with the town of Nové Mesto nad Váhom. You can therefore consider whether the 13.4-kilometre recreational route along the crest of the Váh flood embankment, and its suitability for all age groups, including children, fits your travel plans.

A separate crossing over the Váh is provided by the Brunovce pedestrian and cycling bridge between Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Piešťany. It was built between 1976 and 1978. It is currently closed because of its inadequate technical condition. If you are planning to use this crossing on your trip, check its status immediately before setting out. The bridge and the cycling route offer different points of reference: for the route, its course and length matter; for the bridge, the current closure is particularly important for planning.

Brunovce for Your Travel Decision

Anyone looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Brunovce can first weigh up their main interest: the history of the manor house and park, or the recreational cycling route. The historical themes represent different periods and design styles; the route offers a clearly specified distance of 13.4 kilometres. If your plans depend on the crossing between Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Piešťany, checking the bridge’s status should be a separate step.
