Nová Ľubovňa offers two distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: Goral traditions and historic religious buildings in the municipality, and mineral springs and a forest park in Ľubovnianske Kúpele. The settlement, which belongs to the municipalities of Nová Ľubovňa and Chmeľnica, is a recreational and spa settlement in the Spišsko-šarišské medzihorie area, in the valley of the Ľubovnianka stream. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether cultural history or nature and mineral water should be the focus.

Mineral springs and forest park in Ľubovnianske Kúpele

The mineral springs in Ľubovnianske Kúpele are freely accessible. Mineral water from the settlement is bottled and sold under the name Ľubovnianka. The springs and bottled water are two distinct aspects of the local mineral water experience: there are both freely accessible springs and a product sold under its own name.

A nature trail with six stops runs through part of the historic forest park. The park is home to the only four documented specimens of the Pyrenean pine in Slovakia; one of them has eleven trunks. This unusual tree form and the trail stops give the forest park a clear natural-history focus.

Cycle path and seasonal winter sports

Ľubovnianske Kúpele can be reached from Nová Ľubovňa via a cycle path that passes through the nature of the Levoča Hills. The ski area lies beyond the settlement and has three ski lifts. This brings together different activities: a cycling connection through the hilly landscape and winter sports. Before your visit, check the current operating information to confirm whether the ski area is open for the season.

Goral traditions and music

The FSk Taľar folklore group represents and preserves the traditional dress of Nová Ľubovňa through its performances and activities. The musical tradition offers another way to explore local culture: most humorous, wedding and occasional songs in the Goral tradition are sung to four original basic melodies. The tradition can therefore be understood not only through its clothing, but also through the melodies and occasions with which it is associated.

Pastrnoci preserves a living archive of Goral songs and dances. The group performs at various cultural events in the municipality, as well as at social and family occasions in the wider area. The municipality’s oldest folk music group was formed in the 1920s as the band of the Valigurský family. Several musicians from this band later performed with the Pastrnik folklore group and the Pastrnoci folk music group.

Chapels and building history

The Chapel of “Sedembolestnej Panny Márie” was built in 1846 and is the oldest chapel in Nová Ľubovňa. It stands at the upper edge of the village, on the road to Jakubany. There are three chapels in the built-up area of the municipality. The church can also be understood through its building history: it was modified in 1615, 1823, 1857, 1934 and 1987.
