Six stained-glass windows designed by Ladislav Záborský, a settlement pattern following a stream, and finds from the Early Neolithic offer several perspectives on the cultural history of Ľubotice. If you are choosing a place to stay based on specific historical interests, the story here spans from early history to religious and technical buildings.

Settlement Pattern and Early Traces

From the first half of the 13th century, Ľubotice developed as a linear village following a stream. A main road ran parallel to the Ľubotický potok. This settlement pattern offers a different perspective on the village than looking at individual churches or historic buildings: the course of the stream and the road’s alignment are already part of the story of its development. Finds from the Early Neolithic, dated to 5000–3800 BC, have been discovered in the Šarišské Lúky locality. This dating places them far earlier than the village’s medieval development. If you are interested in local history, you can consider the long-term settlement pattern and individual buildings as distinct topics here.

Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

The Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built in 1806 in the Baroque-Classicist style. Its six stained-glass windows are evenly divided: three are on the south side and three on the north side. They were designed by academic painter Ladislav Záborský. The church was last renovated and extended in 1993. Its year of construction, window design, and later structural changes offer different clues for understanding the history of this religious building.

Šarišské Lúky: Early Finds and a Religious Building

In Šarišské Lúky, the history of a religious building reaches back to a different era. The former synagogue dates from 1833. Since 1997, the building has served as the Greek Catholic Church of Saint Prophet Isaiah. Its former purpose and present-day religious use mark a change in function. Together with the Early Neolithic finds, this reveals a wide span of time: the history of the locality can be explored through both early traces and the development of a historic building.

Manor House and Technical Monuments

The Ľubotice manor house was originally built in the early 17th century in the Late Renaissance style. It has an interesting garden and is set apart from the village’s detached houses. The manor house is privately owned, so you should not count on being able to visit the interior.

A technical aspect of local history is represented by the municipal waterworks building. It is a national cultural monument in the Historicist style, with underground pipes and shafts preserved within it. This building is also privately owned, so access should not be assumed. The manor house and waterworks building differ in their historical functions, but both come with the important practical limitation that visitors may not be able to enter.
