The red cable car from Skalnaté pleso to Lomnický štít covers an elevation gain of 855 metres in 8.5 minutes. Tatranska Lomnica also offers a range of skiing and hiking options, as well as botanical and cultural attractions. Mountain rides, piste profiles and a nature trail provide different points of reference for planning your day.

Cable Cars and Elevations

From Tatranska Lomnica, a cable car ride via Štart leads to Skalnaté pleso at an altitude of 1,751 metres. The cable car from Tatranska Lomnica to Lomnické sedlo also runs via Štart and Skalnaté pleso, reaching an altitude of 2,190 metres. From Skalnaté pleso, a red, 14-seat cable car takes passengers to Lomnický štít in 8.5 minutes, covering an elevation gain of 855 metres. Check current operating status before your ride, as operating conditions may vary.

The history of the cable cars dates back to the interwar period: construction of the connection from Tatranska Lomnica to Lomnický štít was initiated in 1936 at the instigation of Juraj Orságh, director of the State Spa Facilities in Tatranska Lomnica. The official opening took place in 1941. Lomnický štít is the second-highest peak in the High Tatras and a destination for a family outing.

Skiing by Piste Profile

The lower part of the ski area has blue runs for beginners; the middle section near the Štart transfer station is designed for advanced skiers. The black run at Lomnické sedlo has an elevation difference of 1,300 metres. The longest carving run in Tatranska Lomnica is 6.5 kilometres long and up to 60 metres wide. This allows you to consider difficulty level and elevation difference separately from the length and width of the carving run when planning your skiing.

Hiking Trails and Nature

A green-marked hiking trail connects Tatranska Lomnica with Skalnaté pleso. Walks and hikes are possible around the mountain lake. As trail conditions and closures may vary, check current conditions before setting out.

Another green-marked trail leads from Lomnické sedlo to Veľká Lomnická veža. The viewpoint is at an altitude of 2,215 metres; thanks to the chairlift, it is also easy for families with children to reach. For a circular walk with a manageable time commitment, the Pramenisko nature trail is a good option: it starts at the botanical garden in Tatranska Lomnica, loops back to Tatranska Lomnica and can be walked in less than two hours. Five information panels accompany the route; two viewing platforms offer views of a montane alluvial forest.

Expozícia tatranskej prírody is a 3.2-hectare botanical garden in Tatranska Lomnica. It features rare and endangered plants and trees of the Tatras. At Skalnaté Pleso, the Svištia skala playground is located directly below the cable car. It includes a marmot-like structure, a slide and a tunnel.

Museum, Film and Art

The Múzeum TANAP-u in Tatranska Lomnica presents the nature and history of the High Tatras, as well as the former way of life and culture of the people living below the Tatras. Lomnické sedlo also has a connection to cultural history: the 1970 Slovak film “Medená veža” was filmed there.

Nearby Galéria Encián at Skalnaté Pleso offers young artists free exhibition space for sculpture, wood carving, photography and painting. The exhibition programme may change.
